While these aren't rules, I figured I'd put them here because this post should be considered as essential of info to you as the actual rules are.
This is for all of you new members who are joining the XWA. First off, I have to thank you for taking the time to check us out and making the decision to join up. However, some of you may be new to this type of roleplaying environment, so I see the need to educate you on how things are done here.
XWA is a sim/game E-fed
Meaning that we use a wrestling video game to determine the outcome of matches, as opposed to typical writing as seen in "text feds". The game of choice is always the latest version of WWE Smackdown Vs. RAW by THQ/Yuke's.
You roleplay as your character in a non-match capacity
Every other aspect of the character(s) are under your control. It's your "job" to place your character into meaningful storylines, interaction and feuds against other characters in the fed. You can make friends or enemies, or both, the choice is yours.
Now, in realizing that some may be new to roleplaying altogether, I supply some handy dandy to help you get started.
1) Read the rules.
After you finishing reading this, go back read every other thread in this sub-board. Make sure you're informed of everything they cover, because you don't want me sending you a message informing you of a violation to something that has been already pointed out you should not be doing or doing in a certain way.
2) Read other people's work.
This always has been and will the simplest, easiest and most effective way to not only get an idea of how to roleplay, but to improve your own roleplaying skills. All it is in essence is creative writing with a twist.
3) Format your roleplays.
Even though it's writing, you're not required to write out a roleplay like it's a book. Again, refer to #2 and see how others format their posts. It's a good idea to differentiate your character's spoken word for your narrative of the character's action, much like a movie script or screen play.
4) Learn the roster.
The biggest mistake many make is paying attention to only their own work. This not only keeps you misinformed, it'll alienate you from other because you didn't take a little time to learn at least a little bit about the other characters in the fed. Ask questions. Read roleplays. (Notice how it all falls back onto reading other's work...)
5) Respect your "elders".
By that I mean the members who've been a part of the fed longer. They are in fact the backbone of what the XWA is. If you can do that, you'll have an easier and more fun time becoming a part of the XWAniverse.
6) Get involved in something.
This ties hand in hand with the previous point. Often a lot of people make an attempt to "start something". Unless you have a very good idea of what you want to do, this is not going to work, especially if you're new. Other members don't know you from a hole in the wall, so unless you've got something really good planned out (and I mean really planned out), it's better to start by getting involved in some kind of already existing event or action. Eventually, you will be able to start up something of your own, but it's a lot better for everyone if you work your way into something instead. Remember this: you're a part of a universe here, not the center of it.
7) If anything else, ask.
Don't be afraid to ask any questions, whether it's to myself or to any senior member of the fed. Everyone here is pretty helpful. Things may seem a bit confusing towards the beginning. It's critical that you ask about anything you're unsure of instead of jumping into something you don't understand and making yourself seem "noobish" as result.
The underlying thing for anyone starting out is to make yourself aware of exactly how things happen here. Through asking, observing and adapting, it won't be long before you get the hang of it, but you've got to make yourself flexible. The most common mistake new members make is trying to create "their own thing". The key to success in the XWA is to make yourself a part of the big picture, not trying to paint your own.
