"Hey everyone, this is Wally the Wombat with our weekly wrestling interview. Tonight’s guest is a man that needs little to no introduction. He is the current XWA Heavyweight champion, Kayn. Kayn, it’s nice to have you here with us."
"Thanks Wally, it’s nice to be here."
"Now you’re not known for doing a lot of interviews, so it’s an honor for us to have you in the chair over there. What made you decide to come down here tonight?"
"Honestly Wally, I’m not much of a talker, but there’s been a lot going on in the XWA over the past few months and I figured it’s about time for me to speak my mind on it."
"OK, well first thing I want to pick your brain about. Talk to me about what happened at the Tribute To The Troops. You were scheduled in the main event in a triple threat match with yourself, Jon Payne and Tyson Terra. Before the match, Tyson jumps you. What was going through your mind?"
"Well, it’s not like it something that hasn’t happened to me before, I just wasn’t expecting it this time. This event was for the troops, men and women of honor that are in a place where their lives are on the line everyday. I went our there wanting to give them one of the best performances of my life because they deserve it. Unfortunately that wasn’t in the cards."
"Do you know why Tyson jumped you?"
"Only person that knows that is him. I don’t know him that well, so in my mind it could have been a myriad of different things. Maybe he just wanted to make a statement, maybe he was worried that if I was 100% he couldn’t have won the match, or maybe he’s just a bully with no regards for anyone or anything. Who can say."
"Speaking of the match, you were in there with Jon Payne as well. Were you excited to be in the ring with Jon again?"
"Oh, definitely. Jon has been everywhere, done everything in this business. Everytime he’s in the ring, it’s a clinic. I’ve stood by him in the past and been across the ring from him too. The guy is class personified and any chance I have to be in the ring with him, I’m gonna jump on it. If there’s anyone in the XWA today that you want to test your skills against, it’s Jon. If you can walk out of the ring with a win against him, then you know you’re doing things right."
"A few years ago you put the Pure title against him and won."
"That I did."
"Any chance you’d put the big gold on the line against him?"
"Absolutely. Anytime he wants a match, I wouldn’t hesitate signing my name on the dotted line."
"Speaking of challengers, your name has been on the tongues of a few other wrestlers, mainly ‘Genesis’. Bobby, do you have that clip cued up?"
"Sure do Wally."
"Now Kayn, before we play this, have you heard this interview yet?"
"No, hope it’s something I want to hear."
"It’s nothing bad, but here, take a listen to this."
*Wally plays a clip of the recent interview with Genesis from “Off the Record”.*
Jason the Sensation: With you being out of action. I'm sure you've had some time to see who's coming back for the next year. Are there anybody in particular you'd like to go toe-to-toe with?
Hmm... good question (laughs).
Jason the Sensation: Not meaning to put you on the spot or anything, ha-ha.
Well, I'd say the obvious choice would be Kayn. He's the one XWA Original I've yet to ever have a feud with. We've wrestled once or twice against each other. But nothing more then that. He's the current World Heavyweight Champion. At the end of the day. I respect & love the guy like my own brother. But he has something I've been fighting for since I joined the company in 2007. So to me. That's more then enough motivation for me to go after Kayn. Other then the fact that I want to see just how good the Franchise is. And yes folks. I don't mince words. I mean what I say. Kayn is the true Franchise of the company, hands down.
Jason the Sensation: WOW... seems like you have quite an admiration for "The Death Metal Goliath"?
Yeah, you could say that. I respect him. I hope he respects me. But no matter how you slice it. When the bell rings, & you have the two of us staring a hole through each other's eyes? Its on like Donkey Kong. Hold nothing back, lets go out there & see who the better man is.
"What’s your response to this?"
"Well Brandon is guy that knows this business on both ends. He’s a highly decorated competitor and whatever fed he’s in it’s pretty much a guarantee that he’s going to hold some type of title, whether it’s gold or a name title, such as Combatant Xtraordinaire. To be in the ring with him would be an honor and a privilege."
"So is that a yes?"
"If Ms. Blackheart wants to make it happen, then I’m all for it."
"You heard it here folks, Kayn vs. Genesis could definitely happen someday. Now, I’m going to talk about the elephant in the room. Half the XWA is now on it’s own, how’s that sit with you?"
"Well, to be honest it doesn’t affect me as much as others. Yea, some super talent is no longer under our banner, but that’s the nature of this business. People come and people go all the time, but I can’t remember a time that half a fed split away. We’ll see what happens I guess."
"Do you plan on watching the new fed?"
"As a fan of wrestling first and foremost, I always keep my eyes on the competition. The only difference with these guys is that I’ve had some form of history with a lot of the roster, so I’m interested in what they come up with."
"No ill feelings?"
"Nah, there’s a lot of people that aren’t happy about it but I’m not one of them. I wish them all the best of luck."
"Even Scott Epic?"
"Yea, even Scott Epic."
"Okay, so we’ve got some fans on the phone, feel like answering some questions?"
"Always."
"Alright, let’s start with Dana in Tampa. Dana, you’re on with the champ, go ahead."
"Hi Wally, hi Kayn."
"Hey Dana."
"So Kayn, when you’re not on the road, what do you do to keep yourself occupied?"
"Good question Dana."
"Indeed, well aside from practicing with my band I keep myself occupied with comic books and horror movies."
"Really? So you’re a comic geek?"
"I wouldn’t say a geek per say, but I do like to read some of my favorites."
"Who are some of your favorites?"
"I’m a big fan of the early 90’s comics, my all time favorite is Ghost Rider."
"Interesting, ok, next up we have Larry from Des Moines, Larry go ahead."
"Hey Kayn, we’ve been hearing a lot of people starting to call you the face of the XWA and even calling you ‘The Franchise’, how’s that make you feel?"
(laughs) “Let’s be honest, Scott O’Dell is and always be known as ‘The Franchise’, but if people want to call me that, then let them. I’m not really a guy that has this constant need to have praise rained down on me. I’m just a guy that does what he loves and loves what he does.”
"Okay, but next we have Mark from Pittsburgh. Mark, you’re on with Kayn."
"Hey Kayn, so who’d you have to sleep with to get your hands on that title?"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa there buddy."
"Shut your yap Wally, you hack. You know as well as I do that he doesn’t deserve that title, he got lucky in that cage match."
"Keep up with that tone and I’m ending this call."
"No Wally, it’s cool. I can take the bad with the good. Yea, a cage match is crap shoot on who’s going to win, but the odds are always the same. Each guy in the match has the same chance to win by either pinning someone, climbing out of the cage or leaving by the door. If the opportunity presents itself, anyone would take advantage of it and I’m no different. Do I wish it would have been a one on one match between Tommy and I? Yea, but it wasn’t, we can’t change that but all I can hope is that I can be a champion everyone is proud of. Even you Mark."
"Yea, don’t count on it ‘champ’. You’re a fluke and gonna be nothing more than an afterthought in a few months." *CLICK*
"Wow, sorry about that. Some people just don’t know how to act on the radio."
"No worries Wally. Anyways, who’s next?"
"Let’s see, how about Yvonne from Austin. Yvonne, you’re on the air."
"Hi Kayn, can you tell us if you have a special lady in your life?"
(laughs) “No, not right now.”
"Well, is there someone that you have your eye on?"
(laughs) “Now, now Yvonne, a gentleman never discusses such things.”
"Alright Kayn, we’re just about out of time. Before we let you out of here I'm gonna throw some names out at you and I want you to let me know the first thing that comes to your mind. You down with that?"
"Fire away."
"Carmella Blackheart."
"Easily one of the best bosses I've ever worked for. I owe just about everything to her."
"Xander Xavier Luther."
"Awesome guy, the kind of guy you want in your corner when the chips are down."
"Jamie Fury."
"Phenomenal athlete, I never miss one of her matches."
"Amber Gianni."
"One of the first ladies of the XWA, every chance I've spoken with her she's nothing short of awesome."
"OK, here's one for ya. Keith Wyle."
"Wow, well what can I say other than he was my first rival and my first true friend in the XWA. Where ever you are pal, if you're listening make sure you get back in that ring as soon as possible."
"Alright, anything you want to say to the fans before you jet out of here?"
"Just make sure you tune into Takedown this year. It’s going to be an interesting year to say the least."
"Thanks for stopping by Champ, coming up we’re going to discuss some of the greatest matches ever. Kayn, I’m sure your name will come up at least once in this conversation."
"Let’s hope so, thanks for having me Wally."
