With the upcoming season drawing near. Off The Record productions, an Internet wrestling website/radio network. Took the opportunity to interview the 2008 XWA Combatant Xtraordinaire. The one, & only 'Myster Controversy' of professional wrestling. You know him. You love to hate him. But you sooooo badly want to be him. Genesis!
Interviewer: Hello, & welcome back to 'Off the Record'. It is now 9:25 pm here tonight on this lovely Friday evening. Of course, I am your host Jason The Sensation. Tonight, as promoted earlier on the show. We have a very special guest. Joining us now in the studio is current XWA Superstar, & TNB Alumnist. "The King of Controversy" Genesis. Welcome to the show, bro.
Thanks for having me, Jason.
Jason The Sensation: So Genesis, I'm gonna start off with a question I ask many of our guests. How did you get your start in professional wrestling?
To keep the story short & sweet, Jason. I was hired by Chris Lionheart in 2006 for his promotion that was growing during that particular time frame. I had just come off a long, and strenuous stint in various Indy promotions & training camps to better myself. I got called up to go & work for him down in Atlanta. One thing led to another, & over a year later. I captured my first World Championship. Due to my in-ring antics & take no BS approach from anybody attitude. I was coined "The King of Controversy". The name stuck with me up until recently.
Jason The Sensational: Oh really?
Yeah. I mean, you gotta look at it from my perspective. Everybody & there mother are trying to follow in my footsteps. To top it off. You've got waaaay too many 'Kings' out there (laughs). So I felt that it was time to change things up a bit. So while I was off away from XWA due to nagging injuries. I registered & trademarked the name "Myster Controversy". Which basically means there are many 'Kings'. Many 'Controversial' figures, but there can only be one 'Myster Controversy' in our business. And it is I.
Jason The Sensation: You mention you were gone from XWA on injury relieve. Can you go into a little more detail on this?
Certainly. Over the course of 2010. I had been wrestling with knee & back injuries. It came to a point where I had no other choice but to step away & have those injuries taken care of. So in August. I took some time off to lick my wounds & heal. Got my right knee 'scoped' & repaired. Went through extensive therapy on my lower back. I opted out of surgery to repair a slipped disc. Because if I went that route. You wouldn't see me in the ring for months. The doctor's said its a big risk going out there with an injured back. But the way I see things. I take risks every time I step foot into the ring. Therefore, this is another hurdle I'm going to have to jump over & continue to jump over as long as this body can continue to roll.
Jason the Sensation: During this time. The company has went through some major changes. New faces have came on board. Many old 'established' faces left. What are your thoughts on the current state of the XWA?
About five months away from the company seems like five years to me (laughs). I know that when I walk back into the company. Its going to be drastically different then the one I had left. Part of me is still pissed off & disappointed about the way things went down. Yet, at the same time. I think this company really needed a change. And I think with these new wrestlers & old faces returning. We're seeing just that. Overall, I have to say that I'm very pleased with the organization.
Jason the Sensation: Was this a key reason in you deciding to stay with XWA rather then depart for other organizations?
Absolutely! I felt that, with all due respect to the other federations. I didn't trust how I would be handled. I've been with XWA for 3+ years. Having put in that much time, sacrifice & commitment to this place. Earning the respect of my co-workers, bosses & peers. It was too much of a gamble to throw that all away for a new beginning elsewhere. Besides, if I'm going to retire. I'll gladly retire as a Yankee, so to speak.
Jason the Sensation: Is retirement in the near future for you, Genesis?
Its not too far off. I'll admit. But I'm not retiring anytime soon. I'm going to be twenty six soon. I've been around the block for the last 6-7 years, or so. I'm still very young. Yet at the same time. I don't want to be one of those wrestlers who is still in the ring way past there prime. I'd rather retire comfortably at a young age with good health & alot of money. Then to ever be wrestling at 40-50 years old with no money or anything to show for it but a broken, old body.
Jason the Sensation: With you being out of action. I'm sure you've had some time to see who's coming back for the next year. Are there anybody in particular you'd like to go toe-to-toe with?
Hmm... good question (laughs).
Jason the Sensation: Not meaning to put you on the spot or anything, ha-ha.
Well, I'd say the obvious choice would be Kayn. He's the one XWA Original I've yet to ever have a feud with. We've wrestled once or twice against each other. But nothing more then that. He's the current World Heavyweight Champion. At the end of the day. I respect & love the guy like my own brother. But he has something I've been fighting for since I joined the company in 2007. So to me. That's more then enough motivation for me to go after Kayn. Other then the fact that I want to see just how good the Franchise is. And yes folks. I don't mince words. I mean what I say. Kayn is the true Franchise of the company, hands down.
Jason the Sensation: WOW... seems like you have quite an admiration for "The Death Metal Goliath"?
Yeah, you could say that. I respect him. I hope he respects me. But no matter how you slice it. When the bell rings, & you have the two of us staring a hole through each other's eyes? Its on like Donkey Kong. Hold nothing back, lets go out there & see who the better man is.
Outside of Kayn. I'd like to go another round with The Infamous 187. This guy must have nine lives or something. Last time I saw him in Chi-Town. He was dead (laughs). Nonetheless, he's another individual I wouldn't mind smacking around.
Jason the Sensation: How about this new guy, Mr. Smith? Any comments about him?
Funny you should bring him up, Jason. Because I was just getting ready to drop his name. I've been watching his work. He's one guy that has a ton of 'heat'. Arguably, I'd consider him one of the few handful of newcomers that is well on his way to being at the top of the food chain in the XWA.
Jason the Sensation: Would you care to step into the ring with him anytime in the near future, Genesis?
Maybe... just maybe. Might happen sooner then you think. Let me just say this. I'm impressed with what I've seen so far. He certainly brings alot to the table. But question is: Can he hang with Genesis? We'll have to wait & see. Needless to say. I'm looking forward to our first meeting.
Jason the Sensation: Okay Genesis. We're going to play a little word association game. This game is very simple. I bring up a present XWA Superstars name. Then you tell me the first thing that comes to mind. Are you ready for this?
Yeah man, lets do this.
Jason the Sensation: Alright, lets start off with a man we mentioned earlier. XWA World Heavyweight Champion Kayn.
The Franchise, and easily the 'Face' of the company. Much love & respect from 'MC' here.
Jason the Sensation: Chris Lionheart
Love him... and hate him, like a brother (laughs). Kidding aside, I respect the guy. Very charismatic. One of those guys you wanna run your fist through his face. But at the same time. You can't help but laugh, & have a good conversation with him outside the ring. He can be a charming guy at times. But bottom line. No matter if we're at each other's throats or on the same page. If it wasn't for him. I wouldn't be in the wrestling business today. In a way. I owe everything I ever became in this industry to him.
Jason the Sensation: Carmella Blackheart
The hottest boss on the planet. Nuff said. On top of that. She deserves alot of respect, and credit for keeping this company going strong all these years. Through the good times & the bad. She certainly has busted her ass off to keep this company moving forward.
Jason the Sensation: Lilith
The Queen of Controversy (laughs). Certainly a character that is easy to hate. But at the same time. You can't help but love what she does.
Jason the Sensation: Michael Embers
Who the fuck is that!? (laughs)
Jason the Sensation: Mr. Smith?
Quite possibly, the next greatest heel in our industry today.
Jason the Sensation: Jaime Fury
One tough bitch.
Jason the Sensation: XWA, in general.
The pinnacle of professional wrestling. Everyone else is the past. We are the future.
Jason the Sensation: And lastly, yourself. What can you say about Genesis?
A man who speaks his mind. Tells it like it is. Not afraid to throw a finger in the face of authority. One of the best 'rebels' in this business. Often misunderstood by many. You can love me. You can hate my guts. As long as you respect what I bring to the ring? Expect the same respect returned. Respect is earned in this business, never given. I'll be the first guy to say this. I'm not a man who is greedy for money. I'm a man, who is greedy for respect & loyalty. XWA has been loyal to me, & I've earned a great deal of respect from the bosses. At the end of the day. That is a priceless offer that I can never turn down.
Jason the Sensation: Well Genesis. Its certainly been fun, & a pleasure having you on the show tonight. I'm looking forward to your return to the XWA. I hope to have you back on the show six to twelve months from now. Get a little update on what you're doing & where your career is heading.
Pleasure is all mine, Jason. Thanks for having me.
Jason the Sensation: With that being said. We're going to take are last commercial break of the evening. Will be back more with Off the Record radio.
