I'm confused as to why anyone would want to hack the system period? I see no point to it. I'm sure it'd mean people coule pirate games etc etc all that crap, but I don't really see how that's 'good' The firmware and all that that's been recently instated has done nothing wrong for my PS3 personally, I've had it for like... almost two years now I think and it's never done anything to make me stop and think; "Man, I wish I could hack my system so I could do this or that." Games can be expensive at times, that's true. But it's rare I opt to go for a Limited Special Ultra Fantastical Edition that costs 200+ dollars at any given time. The most I've ever paid for a PS3 game thus far in total was I believe 9... 94, yeah that sounds about right. 94$. That was a special pre-order collectors edition thing. And out of two years of owning a PS3, I've only paid that much for a singular game, once. So unless there's some very large thing I'm missing here, like hacking it being able to allow the PS3 to grow legs and arms and make you breakfast every morning. I'm failing to see why anyone would waste time period lol Unless it's that whole "Since it's deemed impossible I must make it so." Kind of mentality.

I pretty agree with Lilith here. I don't see the purpose in hacking the PS3. I don't really see the purpose in hacking a system in general personally. If you want to save money on games, the PSN often has demos for free for most of the games that come out. For the games that don't have demos, find a cheap place to rent the game instead of spending 60+ dollars on a game you might potentially want to get rid of in the future. For me personally, I rent most games before I make a purchase (Unless it's a special case like Hideo Kojima's Castlevania Lord of Shadows or Batman: Arkham City. I trust 'em and they've had a good track record). But it's easy to save money on games. I don't really want to risk screwing up my own personal enjoyment to hack my system when it could lead to what happens to a lot of 360 users who end up having to own 2 systems. I know too many people who own a modded and a non-modded 360, which I find to be a bigger waste of money.

I see were you both are coming from, but it also allows us to get round game restrictions most times for example SVR 2011; to allow males to wrestle females, fix a ton of layer glitches and what not. Yes it will be used for cheaters galore with no lives but there is some good to it XD

I wonder if these people understand they are just asking for Sony to sue them into oblivion. Also if you jailbreak your system you are just asking for one of the mandatory firmware updates to kill your system.

Yeah, I read on a site recently that due to it Sony is trying to pursue action to be able and ban people outright Ala Microsoft and what happened with the mass pirates on X-Live and such.
That does kind of seem like asking for trouble. I get that being able to bypass the limitations means, as Spyder mentioned, access to various things in various different games, along with pirating etc etc..
But is it reaaaallllllly worth the damage in the long run? I bought my PS3 a couple years ago, so it wasn't the what... almost 700, dollar price tag it was at release. But over 300 dollars is still not exactly everyday kind of cash for some people.
Why risk having to not only buy another system, but as mentioned... risk potential legal ramifications?.. Then again, the same can be said for anyone participating in ANY kind of illegal activity. Even though logic rarely factors into things, some people enjoy the chase the rush the thrill anyway. To each's own.

To kind of paraphrase what one commenter said in the first page posted, "Yeah, you finally cracked the console. Whoop-de-doo." Does that really prove anything aside from the fact that it took them 5 years to pull it off, and in hindsight it serves only the few people who used the "OtherOS" feature previously on the PS3, and all to do something that can basically be done easily (and without a million dollar lawsuit) on one's PC in the first place.
It's all just showing off at this point now, and it only does two things, bad and nothing. Sony will remedy this quickly by either dropping a massive banhammer, creating a new patch, or both. It's gonna pretty much render anyone dumb enough to crack their systems into $500+ paperweights.
Just proof positive that yes...geeks can be stupid too.
