The 2010 was complete. Now the time had come, and the moment had come that all of the wrestling world had been waiting for. By now, insiders and fans alike all knew of what business dealings had transpired, and the results of these transactions. Focusing on business at hand, the XWA's President wasn't available for comment during the course of this.
Until now. From the press room of XWA HQ, she held a conference for sports journalists who wanted to find out what exactly was going on.
"First off, Ms. Blackheart...were you at all aware that this move was being made?"
I knew of Rodolphe Gallas' intention to sell his stock in the XWA. I was aware of his desire to move on to other business ventures. That is all that I was aware of though.
"So you're saying that the buying out of the Overload contracts was not a part of the arrangement?"
Not of the arrangement that I was made aware of. As I was told, this was merely going to be a passing of the baton so to speak. Of course as we all know it turned out otherwise. I'm not going on record here though to say that what was done was an "under the table" deal, because those involved aren't here to defend their actions. Those actions speak for themselves, and I'll leave it for the public to decide what to think of it all.
"Well, the current talent of your company have sounded off in some way or another about this. Have you appointed them to say the things they've said?"
No. As I said, the public will formulate their own judgements. The men and women who work for the XWA, both on and off camera, are people with their own opinions. They have the right to use whatever medium they choose to speak those opinions, so long as it's in a respectable manner. I too have mine, but in the name of professionalism, I choose not to share it with you. I've known the press long enough to know that someone will spin what I say out of proportion.
"So you have no direct comment?"
Not a direct one...but I do have one nonetheless. It was five years ago that I held a conference just like this to announce the inception of the XWA. All the naysayers doubted it. They all ridiculed the company, they all claimed their operations would prove they're superior. After those five years, the XWA still stands, and the only "competition" so to speak, is a company built off of bought out XWA contracts. This company's place in the wrestling world is immortalized, like the company which preceeded us, Virtual Wrestling Entertainment. We are it's successor, and no matter what success they have...they will always be a successor to us. It simply goes to show the results of the efforts of the entire company, not a handful of people who believe their efforts alone are what made this place what it's become. If they were so important to the XWA, they'd still be here.
In truth, I'm the one who allowed a new brand to be created in the first place, if for nothing else, to keep certain individuals "happy" so as not to disrupt the general order of this company. In essence, Overload I treated as if it was it's own company in a sense...so now that it actually is, I really don't concern myself with it. They will always know where they came from, and in a sense, who allowed them to do what they've done...so I don't hold any grudges.
However, the way it all has gone down has led my Board of Directors to announce this. The "Xtraordinaireship" of those who departed XWA for said company has officially been annulled. They can choose to claim or cling to the title as much as they wish, but the XWA officially does not recognize them as such.
"But wait! You just said you hold no grudge! Doesn't that seem a little malicious?"
Do you think Jordan's number would've been retired by the Bulls if he left to the Knicks, even after all he did for that team?
I'd like to quote something that Magnus Von Schwartz said in a recent interview. He said, "Stand in XWA, and for it". That above all else is what being an Xtraordinaire is all about. What you did in the ring was only part of it. The title Xtraordinaire is like an ambassadorship for this company...keywords "for this company". It's our very namesake. They chose not to be a part of this company, so we choose no longer to honor them with the highest of honors we bestow upon the talent that represents this company.
Their contributions can never be erased, and I have the utmost of respect for them, but the fact is that they left by choice. Those contributions are now a part of the past...and the same can be said for all other individuals who've departed. It's only fitting that XWA as a business absolves all honors bestowed based on that choice. They are not provisional, and were always as you could say "conditional based upon employment".
I'd like to point out one specific member of the Xtraordinaireship, MG. He is the exception in that he has chosen to no longer actively compete. If he chose to come back to the XWA, he'd still be honored. If he chose to work for XWA and somewhere else, he'd still be honored. But if he chose to go somewhere else and sever ties to XWA, he would fall in the same bracket as those who have done so already.
I'd like you all to note my wording when I say "the past" as opposed to the word "history"...because XWA history is made by those IN the XWA. We are very serious about that. Those individuals, talented as they may be, are the past, and now, we focus on the XWA's future.
Which brings me to this announcement. The "new" XWA will begin in 2011, with the re-instating of two you could say "old" titles...retired for the brand extension of 2009. At our first PPV of the season, Madness, separate Battle Royals will be held to crown a new National Champion for the men, and a new Pearl Champion for the women.
From there, the sky as they say is the limit, and history will be made by the men and women of today's XWA. We will continue to be the pinnacle of this industry, not by resting on what was done in the past, but by doing what we do best, right here in the present. That's the way it's always been, and the way it'll be always.
Thank you.
As Carmella left the podium, more questions continued to pour in from the reporters, but she had said what needed to be said. It felt like deja vu once again walking away from this, having questions even in her own mind of what was to become of the prized possession of her corporate empire. She smiled though as she went back to her office, because the answers would come in due time. But in the meantime...
Time to get back to work.
