Not even a cold winter's day could stop the city of New York from earning it's moniker of "The City That Never Sleeps". The streets were covered in freshly fallen and still falling snow, but also they were filled with people doing what they always do.
Being native to Pittsburgh, Rob Kozmos was no stranger to inclement weather like this, but there was just something about the city that intrigued him. He's seen everything there was to see in Pitt, there was an air of unfamiliarity here in NYC that he sort of enjoyed.
His taxi got to 34th Street, and there is where he decided to get out and walk the rest of the way to 1 Penn Plaza. On one side of the street was the flagship Macy's store, people flowing in and out of it's doors like water. Across the street and a few yards down was "The Mecca". Madison Square Garden. He looked up and drunk in the sight of it. All the time you see it pictures, but for a man like him in the business he calls a profession, this building is like heaven on earth. Pro Wrestlers dream of performing in MSG, and Kozmos was no different. As he walked past on his way to the XWA Headquarters, he says to himself
"One day..."
Stepping into the lobby of this bustling corporate HQ, he could feel the warmth thawing out his chilled skin. He unbuttoned his coat, loosened his scarf and pulled the skully off his head as he passed through the throngs of people coming in an out of here to reach the security station.
"I have an appointment with Carmella Blackheart? Name's Kosmolo...uh, Kozmos. Rob Kozmos."
He was so confused right now, he didn't even know whether to address himself with his ring name or his birth name. The scruffy guard looked up at him for a second, then back down to look at a list of people expected to arrive. When the name meets his eye, he replied in a scratchy Brooklyn accent...
"Let's see here. Koz...oh yeah, here you are. Okay buddy, let's go."
The guard pointed to a certain elevator of on the side. Apparently it was the only one that went all the way to the top floor. He walked Rob over to it, pulling out a keycard to activate the machine.
"So only certain people have access to this one?"
"Yeah, Ms. Blackheart only sees people by appointment nowadays. Just she and the couple of people who work with her have cards like these to get up there. So...uh, what is it you do buddy?"
"Me? Oh, I'm a wrestler. Signing to XWA today."
"Oh, that's gotta be her favorite part of her company there. Lemme give you some advice being somebody who's seen a lotta guys come through here. Don't go in there thinking that your something special. She hates that. Just be real with her and you'll do just fine."
A bells rings, signaling the arrival of the elevator. As Rob steps inside, he nods and says thank you to the guard for his words of advice. One thing he paid special mind to out of what was said though "part of her company". What did that mean? All this time, he thought that Carmella Blackheart owned just XWA. He shakes his head...
"A woman like her has to have more than just a wrestling company bankrolling all this."
The bells rings again and the doors slide open to reveal a stylishly designed hall. Lush greenery and tapestry made this place look very calming, like it was right out of paradise or something. In the not too far distance was a reception desk and a rather attractive young lady Rob assumed was Carmella's secretary. He looks at the nameplate on the desk before introducing himself.
"Hi there, uh...Candice? I'm Rob Kozmos. I have a 12 O'Clock with Ms. Blackheart?"
She smiled as she looked him up in the appointment book on her desk. Rob was thinking she must've noticed he was a pretty good looking guy himself. He wanted to ask her for her number, but knew that wasn't gonna fly right now.
"I'll let her know you're here. Just have a seat..."
She pressed the button on the intercom on her phone.
"Ms. Blackheart, you have your 12:00 here waiting for you, Rob Kozmos?"
