In a special video feature on the XWA website, Lucy Black sat down with the former Diamond Champion Jamie Fury about her future plans. Those plans it turns out would be to make a "dream" of a challenge.
Lucy: Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome my guest at this time, the former XWA Diamond Champion, Takedown's "Steel Diamond" Jamie Fury!
Fury came into view, wearing a tube top that showed off the fine-chiseled shoulder of a former professional bodybuilder. Both ladies sat in comfy studio chairs overlooking the empty Palace of Auburn Hills.
Lucy: Welcome Jamie...I guess the first and most obvious question is exactly what the heck you're doing here as opposed to being in Athens for TakeDown's Only The Strong PPV?
The answer is easy...and it all started when I was called upon by the new Diamond Champion, Okami Hawaito.
Lucy: Congratulations to her in order for sure, big win...
Yes. When we first stepped in the ring, I knew a great deal about her, or I thought I did. That's because each time we wrestled, I saw more and more about her heart, her determination and most importantly, her will to become stronger. She saw me as the one who could bring that out of her. She'll probably say she's learned a lot from it, but I have as well.
Lucy: Like what?
That even though I had a goal and I achieved it, there's always farther to go. Stronger to become. There'll always be mountains ahead that're bigger to climb, and that's why I'm here tonight. To stand in front of another mountain, another challenge, and to do what Okami did...test my mettle in the fire of battle and come out better than I came in. There's only one woman in the XWA today that can push me to that limit...to do for me what I did for Okami.
Lucy: Wait...you don't mean...
Ashley Diamond.
Jamie nodded to confirm it all.
A lot of people right now have me and her on the same pedestal you could say. We have a lot in common. We were both Diamond Champions and Xtraordinaires in our first year here in XWA. We've both carried the belt for a long time and challenged anything that came in front of us. We're both now regarded as the two best woman wrestlers in the world today.
Long before I came along though, Ashley became the face of the XWA Diamonds, and she didn't do it by being as sexy as Amber Gianni or as tough as Hayley Jonas. She did it by being the hardest working woman in this business, wrestling night and night out, living out of a briefcase and showing up for every XWA event. She did it by facing and defeating women I haven't gotten the chance to in my career. If it wasn't for her, a lot of women, including myself...wouldn't be in this business.
Let's face it...the XWA is one of the few places in the industry outside of that treats women wrestlers with respect. We're not side-shows or eye candy here, we're competitors. Ashley Diamond proved that you didn't have to have "Playboy looks" to be a star. We all respect that about her. I pushed myself because I wanted to be talked about in this business the same way she was, with respect. Even those who don't like her respect her, because she's done a whole lot to make us legitimate. That was another goal I sought to achieve and succeeded in...to be the best I could and leave no doubt in anyone's mind when they said my name to just what it is that I can do.
They speak about she and I now like they did of Sarah Warfield and Tadako Anenokoji, but there's a difference between those two and us. Those two have a library of classic matches against each other, whereas Ashley and I have never crossed paths. At XGAMES I wish to change that.
I forego my rematch clause for the Diamond Title to prepare myself for this challenge. A best of three match, like the one that Alundra Jade and Lakoda Rose recently had, except it'll be all in one night. All on that night. One on one, pushing ourselves to limits we know that can only be reached by her stepping in the ring with me, and me with her.
This is not about proving who's the best of the best, or who's better than the other. This is about making a match that I've always wanted everytime I've seen her in the ring, and a match that I know she's probably thought of making happen as well. I say there's no time like the present. The Diamond Division is slowly being redefined now...I think it's high time the two women who helped to define it finally met in the ring, don't you?
Lucy: That would be...in effect...a dream match.
Well, the catchphrase for XGAMES is "Saving The Best For Last". I think Diamond Vs. Fury would be as good as it could possibly get. Ashley, if you think so too, then right here in Detroit during Devil's Night I'll be in attendance. All you'll have to do is say yes.
Lucy: Well, to say this is a blockbuster challenge is an understatement. Jamie Fury laying down a challenge for a Best of 3 Match against Ashley Diamond. The two most dominant, most revered women in XWA history...could it be the greatest match in XWA history? You'll have to tune into Devil's Night to hear the answer to Jamie's challenge by Ashley.
This is going to be big.
