TakeDown had finished.
The ring crew are dismantling the set and superstars, trainers and backstage staff are making their way through throngs of fans towards hotels and airports for their next engagement.
Chris Dynamite strode calmly through the arena.
Dressed in a shirt//waistcoat/tie combo with jeans, and pulling his suitcase along behind him, he just wanted to get to his car, he had somewhere to be.
The night had not gone to plan, and he moved through the gangs of fans in the car park, signing quick autographs as he went.
Breaking through the crowd he heads towards the black car, whose door is already open and waiting,
Chris Dynamite… can I have a word…
Chris pauses, keeping his back to the voice he looks at the car valet who shrugs and nods,
Chris turns slowly to face the young female reporter stood there, recording device in hand,
Kristen Allson, Wire Magazine Online, I just wanted to ask you a few questions,
Sure, fire away…

You’re coming out tonight off another big loss to Genesis, and people are starting to suggest you can’t cut it here, what would you say to that?
They’re not starting to say it, they’ve been saying it for ages, and it still doesn’t matter,
What about suggestions that you bring nothing to the XWA…
I’d suggest they look at merchandising, buy rates and TV viewing figures where I’m concerned
But this is a competitive sports company isn’t it…
Aw, Miss…Allson? It’s very sweet that you think so, but no. No it isn’t, if you look at this you’ll realise it is a million dollar business. We need people who make money, people like me.
And you don’t think that’s at all missing the point of being here. That people deserve to see the best athletes competing to prove that’s what they are?
Listen, sweetie, the old-school ideals are cute, really they are, but things have changed. No one can question my athletic ability, I can hang with the best of them, I just have an issue with results…and that’s just numbers.
But numbers that count, isn’t it about being the best?
Hmm, let’s see. I’m guessing you were a young fan huh? Watched wrasslin’ at home with your dad and granddad, loved the big fights and seeing the shiny happy goody trounce his big bad opponent huh?
Sorry to ruin the rose tint here chick, but that’s not how it works. This isn’t your granddaddy’s wrasslin’ extravaganza anymore. Behind the celebrating good guys and slithering baddies there’s a living business. A business that puts food on the table of hundreds of people. A business that’s funded by advertising spots, ticket sales, merchandise, promoting. All of which needs people like me!
People who you’ll pay to hear talk, people who shift t-shirt, people who can do TV spots, people with the charisma to make it in today’s multi-media melting pot. I know, you’d like a company full of Adam Devlin’s and Tommy Trytons, but that’s not how it works. The money men need the money makers, which makes me he flashes a cocky smile indispensable!
Kristen raises an unimpressed eyebrow
You’ve waited a long time to use that speech haven’t you?!
Quite a while, yeah, but the point still stands. I’m sure someone as tenacious as you could check the…figures, if you wanted to,
So you really think the ‘Chris Dynamite brand’ is that vital to the XWA?
I think that so long as I’m making this company money, then the people who say I’m not worth my pay check can keep blowing hot air.
And if you ever stop making money…
Chris laughs and pauses,
Well Miss Allson I may just have a solution to that too
Can you tell me it?
Or one better, I can show you it.
You see I’m en route to a meeting which might interest you. You wanted a scoop, care to join me?
Going where?
Chris smirks and leans in close to whisper to her,
Marketing.
He smiles as he opens the door, lets her climb into the car, then follows her.
To the hotel, there’s a man in a suit waiting for me at the bar.
