Pollox Troy paces back and forth backstage near the locker room area. The look on his face told the tale of a man who wasn't in the best of moods. And rightly so. For two weeks he'd challenged one of Japan's most elite wrestlers, Mihashi Naozane. And for two weeks, he'd fallen in defeat to him. It was the 1st time Pollox had lost two matches in a row in some time. Not even Ethan Bain had managed to beat him two times consecutively. It bothered him. The fact that he'd not figured out how to solve the riddle of Naozane's wrestling style. Pollox is soon joined by Lucy Black.
Pollox, tonight you're slated to go one on one against Japan's own Mihashi Naozane once again. In recent weeks, you haven't exactly had the best of luck against the newcomer. What are your thoughts on his run of success against you?
Mihashi Naozane is one of Japan's premiere talents. The man is an exceptional athlete. Gifted in ways not many, if any in all of the XWA are even aware of. Dare I even go as far as saying, he might be the best I've faced one on one...ever. And I've been at this for 15 years. That being said however, as good as Naozane-San is, he's also one thing most importantly then anything else.
Human.
And with that in mind, he's fallible. In our last two matches, he's bested me using his god given talents. His agility. His speed. His strength and athleticism. But I've seen men with his kind of talent get swallowed whole by this business. What god gives you only takes you but so far. It's what you learn along the way that makes you a competitor. I'd be lying if I didn't say losing to him frustrates me to no end. But even the best lose. The true testament to who's considered the best isn't in how you lose, it's how you learn from that loss. He's got ability beyond anything I've faced in that ring. But so did countless other men I've faced in my career. I find ways to turn the tide of battle in my favor. It'll be no different against him.
Forgive me if that doesn't exactly sound like the most compelling of statements. I mean, you are known as "The Master Manipulator" after all. Turning things to your favor usually means bad things are on the horizon.
*Hmmmph* Allow me to ease your doubt then. Against a man like Naozane, anything less then beating him at my best is an insult to my own ability. Yes, I know I've bent a few rules in the past to get my way. I have no intention of doing so tonight. I've seen the best he has to offer. I know that when he steps in the ring, he steps in with his phaser set to kill. I made the mistake the 1st time of taking him lightly, and I made the mistake the 2nd time of not taking my chances when I could have. Tonight, he sees, as well as the rest of the world, what I'm truly capable of in that ring. Beating me twice has guaranteed he'll see the best Pollox Troy has to offer tonight. We'll see how he fairs as result.
Focused and determined, Pollox walks off to ready himself for the match.
