Only a few days removed from the Madness PPV, Takedown's next show was on the air, this time from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL. As the opening pyro subsides and the crowd settles in for another fine night of XWA action, that age old question gets them right back to their feet.
Can you dig it?
CAN YOU DIG IT!?
The tune "Get Real" by indie hip-hop artist Dave Notti plays once again, and once again out to the stage steps "The Purple One". As the fans roar for one of their favorites, it's clear that the usually rambunctious Syrus is a little disappointed at his last appearance in front of them, a point that announce team had brought under discussion as he made his way to the ring.
Goldman: Well, Syrus is here and as you can see, he's not the XWA World Champion after Madness. The benefit of the doubt has to be given though, because his road to trying to reclaim the title was not without some noticeable roadblocks.
Buzz: Yeah, I mean he got blindsided by MG at the premiere show, and then had to wrestle both Robby Sylk and Jeremy Pendelton that same night. We don't know what injuries he sustained, but there's no way he could have been 100% going into that title match with Tryton. No way...that was like someone else in the ring that night that looked like STE, but clearly wasn't.
First off...Tommy Tryton...congratulations. You got it done, and now without a shadow of a doubt you are the undisputed World Champion. Ain't no mistakes about it, you came in with the intention of defending what's yours, and that's what you did. Ain't nothing changed, dog...you get nothin' but respect from the STE.
He pauses as the fans cheer for the triumphant champion.
You know, everything I do in this business...I do for all of you fans out here who come out and pack these arenas and pay your hard-earned dollars for tickets and swag that help to feed our families. Sometimes though, sometimes it makes you do things that maybe you shouldn't have done. That one move that maybe you should have tried, that one risk you shouldn't have taken...in the heat of the moment, that's all you think about, the moment, and not the consequences after it.
I have this little piece of paper here in my pocket...
Reaching in his pocket, he pulls out a folded up letterhead.
...and it came from the doctor in Philly who checked me out after MG mercked me. It reads...
"Mr. Sykes has suffered bruised ribs as result of the attack which he sustained. While no surgery is required to heal this injury, time is required. Mr. Sykes cannot be medically cleared to compete until a further diagnostic exam is done to assess the severity of his injuries."
Now, usually that kind of documentation goes to the Health & Wellness department of the XWA, but that would have meant that the match at Madness would have to have been called off. That woulda meant no Tryton Vs. Syrus, no chance for me to reclaim the title, and...the worst of it is...one of those three fools that tried to take me out would probably have taken my place. I wasn't about to let that "madness" happen!
So, I stepped in the ring banged up, with nobody knowing that I was injured and nothing protecting me to give it away and...I just couldn't give you all the show you know me for. I was playing hurt and there wasn't anyway I could have told anybody that, until now. Seeing as I've pulled off some miracles in the past, I figured I might've had one more in my pocket, but the champ wasn't havin' that.
Now, there's the truth for ya'll. I know it sounds like a big excuse, but ya'll saw what went down, and if anyone questions the authenticity of this letter, I'll put it up online for everyone to see it. The bottom line though is that...I couldn't let the bad guys get their way, and I couldn't deprive you fans of a match that could have been one for the ages. That's just not how Syrus handles his bizness, ya dig?
Sympathetic to his plight, it appears the fans had no problem in believing what they were hearing. Their cheers made that evident.
Bottom line though, is that I'm out here now, no title, and no idea when I'm gonna be in this ring to compete again...
That news however put a sour note in the tune of the crowd.
...now that the cat's out of the bag, the docs are surely gonna wanna check out my ribs and see if I haven't made things even worse by going into Madness with an injury they didn't know about. So, you could say the show is on a hiatus for now...but it won't be long. I have some unfinished business with some dudes here, and they know who they are! No cryin' now, peeps...I'll be back, please believe it!
After he finishes addressing the fans though, a familiar theme of a particularly unpopular "dude" begins to play...
