Backstage in his locker room with Overload under way, No Limits Champion Sushi-X was preparing for his first match of the new season. It would be against an old foe in Kelon J.A.H., the man that replaced him in TNN. As he was lacing up his boots, a knock on the door.
*knock knock knock*
Who is it?
It's Lucy. Can I come in?
Sure, sure, come on in.
Lucy Black, the newest sideline reporter for XWA, entered with a microphone in hand and a cameraman behind her. Less than two minutes later, the ninja would have his first interview on Overload in months. Surely there would be a question or two about his match tonight.
Thanks guys! I'm here with XWA No Limits Champion Sushi-X. Now we found out from Overload GM Stan O' Malley that you would defend the No Limits title at Vendetta against Kelon Thomas. And tonight, you two will meet in a non-title match.
Sushi-X looked at the beautiful Ms. Black. He tilted his head and gave a somewhat puzzling gaze.
I have a couple of questions if you don't mind. One... who's Kelon Thomas?
Um, Kelon? The guy you almost hit with your title belt at Union? Kelon Thomas?
Who? Cause if I remember correctly, it was Kelon J.A.H. that I nearly brained with my belt. Now who's this Kelon Thomas you speak of?
The crowd chuckles a bit as the champion was playing to the crowd. Of course Sushi-X knew who Kelon was.
Um... Thomas is Kelon's last name.
Sushi looks at the camera and looks around for a moment before turning back to Lucy.
Ahhhh... he has a last name? I didn't know that. You learn something everyday. I actually feel smarter. And I didn't have to stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
Question number two: Who are you? I don't think I've seen you around here before.
I'm... I'm Lucy Black. I used to be on Glitter, now I'm here doing interviews.
Of course he knew. Again he was playing to the University Park crowd. Sushi-X then held out his hand and shake's Lucy's free hand.
Sushi-X! XWA No Limits Champion! Damn glad to meet you! Now that we've met, we can get on with the interview. Do whatever it is you do.
The crowd cheers for a moment before Lucy asks again about his next challenge.
You face Kelon Thomas at Vendetta for the No Limits title as ordered by GM O' Malley. Tonight, you two face off in a non-title match. Your thoughts?
Sushi-X thought about it for a moment as the tone of the interview turned serious.
Well, Lucy. Stan was right. Winning the championship was one thing. And well deserved. But now comes the hard part. What you do after you win. Well, my first title defense was against the man some called the best pound-for-pound wrestler in the world at THE EVENT OF RECORD in this business. XGames3. Bryan Yang may go down as the best ever, but I am the best right now. And that's what this title means.
Lucy, this title means everything to me. This is the culmination of two years of blood, sweat, tears, and fire. Everybody young blood in this company is coming for this belt. Because everyone in this business knows when you have the No Limits title, you are the best pound-for-pound wrestler in the world. You got the "Battle of the Future" to determine the next #1 contender for this. Bryan wants his belt back. Finesse wants his moment to shine. And two rookies are looking to make an impact. I've busted my ass for this belt, Kelon. And I'll be damned if you take this off me at Vendetta. Or anybody afterwards.
Now as for you Kelon, tonight, you learn what I've learned. What the road with TNN leads to. A dead end. I haven't forgotten about last year, where you beat me by a second in that cage. But I'm smarter. I'm stronger. And I'm better. I walk to that ring with no fear. And I'll bring everything I have.
My career has risen from the ashes. When I'm done with you, you'll be like the rest of TNN...burned. To a crisp.
