Overload open challenge

UNION was already underway and it was in between matches. The crowd anticipated what was going to happen next. During the beginning of the show they already heard about Scott O’Dell challenging Jayson Jones to a King’s Road match for the premiere of Overload. What was to happen next during UNION? Suddenly Romeo’s them music began to play throughout the arena. The crowd erupted in cheers as they waited to see Romeo for the first time since XGames III. He pushed aside the black curtain and emerged onstage. He was sporting the usual blue jeans and a black and blue designers t-shirt. He made his way down the ramp giving high fives on the way. He rolled into the ring and grabbed the microphone from the mat. He lifted the microphone to his lips and began to speak.

“Damn it feels great ta’ be back here in this ring. I can’t tell y’all how much it sucks ta’ be away from wrestlin’ while the XWA goes into the offseason. The last time I was in a ring wasn’t that pretty. I know y’all remember XGames III when Pollox and Kaster Troy pretty much picked Finesse and I limb from limb in that tornado tag match. I’m not gonna stand here and try and make excuses for what happened that match, I’m jus’ gonna move onta’ this season. Last season was a bad one filled wit’ injuries and jus’ real bad times but now I’m back this year and feelin’ better than ever.”

The crowd begins to cheer. It seems that they are excited to see Romeo back in action this season.

“Aight so at the end of the season last year I was placed on the Overload roster. Actually I requested to be changed to the Overload roster ‘cause I wanted change. I wanted something different and I knew that Overload would be the better fit for me. Why? I couldn’t really say why. It’s jus’ some feelin’ that I have. Maybe it’s ‘cause of the fast pace or it could be for something else. So here I am now on the Overload roster and ready ta’ make my official debut on Overload. I figured that I’d set out a challenge here at UNION for the Overload premiere jus’ ta’ get things started a lil’ early. I know this nearly ain’t as big as Scott O’Dell challenging Jayson Jones to the King’s Road match but hey it’s good enough for me. I’m new ta’ Overload and haven’t had real experience on the show yet. So with all that said, I’m settin’ out an open challenge to any wrestler on the Overload roster to get in the ring wit’ Romeo Davis. We all gotta start somewhere so who’s it gonna be?”

Romeo lowers the microphone and shifts his attention to the stage. Suddenly someone else’s theme music began to play.

*A skinny dude, 5'10", steps onto the stage as Skillet's "Awake and Alive" blasts through the speakers, shaking the arena and pumping up the fans. Most don't recognize the man that is now standing there with a microphone in his hand, but a few sparse members of the audience are screaming their heads off. The man is smiling, obviously happy to be there, and very happy at the slight recognition. After two, three years of not being involved in wrestling at all, this was already a better reaction than he expected. As the music dies down, the small man raises his microphone.*

"Romeo Davis, eh? It's a pleasure to meet you. Allow me to introduce myself, with a brief history lesson. You see, a few years ago, I was pretty big. Not necessarily successful, but the fans..."

*He pauses from his oration for a moment and points to the audience, getting a small pop from the crowd. Not a huge reaction, however.*

"The fans thought I was something special. I had something of a cult following, if you will. I was known for being a never-say-die type of guy, an underdog, a fun-loving, root beer drinking, high flying cruiserweight sensation. And now, well, I guess no one knows me that well. That's fine. As a matter of fact, that's why I'm here. After a few years away from wrestling, I've come back to rejoin my family. I've come back, to prove myself. I've come back to win some championships, maybe. But most importantly, I've come back to what I love. Professional wrestling.

Like you, I'm relatively new to Overload. As a matter of fact, I haven't even had a match in XWA! But it would be an honor to get in the ring with you on the season premiere of Overload. My name is Kyle Nobbs, and I accept your challenge! We all gotta start somewhere, you said. Let's start it off with a bang!"

[Romeo Davis]

Romeo raises the microphone to his lips once again and begins to speak.

“Kyle Nobbs, I know a lil’ bit ‘bout ya’ bro. Before I joined here wit’ the XWA I did my research on other businesses so I have heard of ya.’ I mean I don’t know too much but at least I’ve heard of ya’ right? It is a pleasure ta’ meet ya’ also man. Even though ya’ been away from the ring for three years like ya’ said, I would still consider you a vet to wrestling. I mean ya’ must have done it for a couple years before ya’ stopped. I’m always grateful when I get to step in the ring wit’ a vet. I also like wrestlin’ people that have different styles. Ya’ said ya’ got a high flyin’ feel ta’ ya.’ Well I think that’s real cool. I been tryin’ to implement a lil’ of that in my arsenal for the past couple years. It takes a lot of work so I know where you’re comin’ from bro. So, I can’t wait to go head ta’ head wit’ ya’ come the Overload premiere. I can tell already that it’s gonna be a good one. So like ya’ said Nobbs, let’s start it out wit’ a bang. I know there are gonna be some great matches come Overload, but let’s make ours one to remember.”

*Nobbs smirks to himself for a moment, before raising his microphone again.*

"Hehe, I'm not quite a "vet" yet... But, you know, I kinda like the whole "I don't insult you, you don't insult me" thing we've got going on. Typically I'd be going up against the bad guys, they'd say I've got nothing on them, we'd beat each other up a little bit and they'd win. This mutual-respect thing is certainly a pleasant change of pace. I'm looking forward to our match. Until then, I'll be training, hard. See ya at Overload!"

*Kyle waves to the crowd and nods once to Romeo in the ring. Pumped for his match, a smile on his face, Kyle turns and starts to head backstage, leaving Romeo in the ring.*

Romeo returns the head nod and watches as Kyle Nobbs returns backstage. Romeo dropped the microphone down to the mat and turned and looked to the crowd. This was it. It was the beginning of the 2010 season. This was the season that Romeo expected to be better than his first two. This had to be his year. What was going to happen next? Only time would tell. His official debut match on Overload would happen next week.

He exited the ring and walked up the ramp taunting for the fans as they cheered. He pushed aside the curtain and disappeared backstage.
