The opening event of the 2010 season, XWA UNION was upon us. Fans packed into the Mellon Arena in droves to catch a glimpse of the premiere event. As the opening pyro array finished off, the fans in attendance and at home expected the appearance of one of the GMs, but instead where treated to the entrance theme of none other then Scott O'Dell.
Tony: Looks like we kick things off with a bang, eh? Welcome to XWA Union ladies and gentlemen. Tony Gomez joined by my new ringside partner Travis Rose.
Travis: And might I say I'm happy to be here, Tony. And happy to be graced with the presence of XWA's one and only "Franchise". This is going to be interesting.
O'Dell steps out from backstage clad in a stylish suit. As was to be expected, boos ring out in the arena from his mere presence. At the top of the stage, he smirks before starting on his way down the ramp. He trades pleasantries with some front row fans before reaching the foot of the ring. Following another pause, he ventures towards the ring steps and ascends them. Now inside of the ring, Scott is handed a mic. He saunters to the middle of the ring and stands defiant as ever as the fans continue to boo. He clears his throat and begins his 1st address of the season.
The last time I stood in this ring, I wasn't standing at all. I had just lost a Last Man Standing match to Jayson Jones at XGames III.
Cheers from the fans follow. Scott smirks and continues.
And I've had four months to let it linger. Four months to let the wound fester. And fester it did. When I was in the gym, training my ass off to prepare for this year, it's all I could think of. It consumed me. How close I was to ridding XWA of that pompous, self righteous bastard of a GM Stan O'Malley. If any of you remember, the stipulation of the match was if I won, Stand had to step down as GM, and I'd get to hand pick his successor. But Jones threw a wrench into the plan. But if anything is known about yours truly, it's that I never go to battle without a contingency plan.
Now, I'm not slated to wrestle tonight. Nor am I even angered about being left out of the #1 Contender Battle Royal. The way I see it, I'll take the Global Title from whoever has it when I'm good and damn well ready to. Tonight, I stand in this ring with a more important agenda. And that agenda is next week. The season premiere of Overload. I have done everything in my career for one reason. My pride. And Jones, you've challenged my pride for a long time. We've gone to war a couple times now, and by the luck of the gods you've been able to beat me. But that luck's run out. That luck is dead and buried. I'm challenging YOU Jones...next week. But not just to any match, no no no. I challenge you to a KING'S ROAD match.
A burst of surprise and anticipation fills the arena.
Travis: We're not even 10 minutes into the season and already O'Dell's swinging for the fences. A King's Road challenge to Jayson Jones at the Overload premiere? WOW!!!
Tony: To the fans unfamiliar with King's Road rules, it's the violent brother of Pure Rules. Much like Pure Rules, neither competitor can exit the ring, but unlike Pure Rules there are rope breaks. The telling difference between the two is that in King's Road matches, the winner is decided by pinfall, submission...or KNOCK OUT. Yes, you can win the match by knocking your opponent complete unconscious. It's a test of skill, conditioning and utter brutality.
No fancy stips. No swerves or curveballs. I just want to kick your good for nothin' New York ass. So what's it gonna be, Jay-J? Ready to man up or what?
Lowering his mic, Scott turns his focus to the stage.
