Bio:
Brian Yang's rise to prominence in wrestling was not an overnight story. It was a slow journey that began in the community centers and gyms of New York State. After high school, Yang knew what he wanted to do, become a pro wrestler. An avid studier of the martial arts from his youth, Yang wanted to do something no other Chinese American had done. Early in his career, he was actually asked to portray himself as Japanese, which he did willingly to gain experience in the ring. After a year of traveling and competing in the northeast, he decided he needed to head west to further his career. He landed in Los Angeles and eventually Japan, where he continued to compete and evolve.
After 3 years, his work paid off, as he was scouted and signed to an XWA contract. A move that would change his life. Yang became an instant fan favorite with his high flying, martial arts based style. In many circles his style was compared to Jon Payne in it's similarity. But early on in his XWA career, he had very little success. Strings of back to back loses at the hands of men like Jimmy Ames and Evan Fate, as well as a humiliating loss to Lionel Xander in later 2007 forced him to sit out the remainder of that season, as well a good portion of 2008. But August of 2008 would be the turning point for Yang. After months away from XWA, Yang returned a changed man. He turned his back on the fans, animatedly stating that they did nothing but hold him back. He would avenge his loss to Xander before being put into a Fatal 4 Way match for the then X-Gen title against current champion Pablo Reyes, Saizo Kodanashi and Jimmy Ames, winning the title on his 1st attempt. Thus would begin the most impressive title reign in XWA to date, as he'd hold on to it for a stunning 12 defenses spanning the course of September 08 to November 09, where he was defeated for the now No-Limits title by the upstart Sushi-X.
During his lengthy reign, he would also find himself approached by the Upper Echelon faction of Scott O'Dell, Primo and Bryan Jasta. A collective of the greatest champions XWA has ever seen. It was only natural he would join their cause, as for the most part he WAS the greatest champion XWA had ever seen. Also during his reign, he began calling himself the "Pound for pound" best wrestler in the world, a fact that few would be hard pressed to deny. With the 2010 season looming near, Yang is focused on only one thing, regaining what he feels is rightfully his, and was taken from him thanks in part to Overload GM Stan O'Malley forcing him to face Sishi-X again after already beating him, The XWA No-Limits Title.
