Here we are, about two or so months into the offseason. A time where most XWA talent reflect on the past season, get some R & R, or whatever the hell else they do. But anyone who's not been living under a rock the last four years knows that Scott O'Dell never sits on his hands. Oh no...the offseason is what makes or breaks you in my opinion. Which is the reason why I spend it in my gym, busting my ass to make sure I'm at the pinnacle of physical conditioning, which comes in handy in and out of the ring. In 2009, I decided to lean up some, cutting about 20 or so pounds to get me down to an even 280. But this year, needless to say bigger is definitely better. Once again I'm back to 300 even, 1% body fat. All muscle, and the best shape I've been in. Of course power means nothing when you don't have a platform to use it on, that's changing up as well.
My base has always been Greco-Roman wrestling. And to this point it's done me well. But thanks to the boon of MMA, any chump can walk into a local gym and learn wrestling. So what's a guy who's already a world class wrestler to do? Train under someone who's in a whole other level, that's what. Which is why I decided to spend the next month in Athens, Greece. And not just any place in Athens, in the gym of the legendary Otto Marstorius. The greatest Greco-Roman wrestler alive, and the man who trained my associate Primo Valiante in everything he knows. That's the kind of wrestling training that you can't get for $100 a session. Just what I need to maintain my edge.
So with one more month left in the offseason, you can bet your asses that I have every intention to start off 2010 the same place I started 07, 08 and 09. Ahead of the curve. Expect nothing less the pure greatness. I've sat and let the "lil ones" bask in the spotlight long enough. This year, It's all mines...as it was always meant to be.
