It was Deja Vu all over again. Inside of the structure called "The Devil's Playground", it had come down once again to Jamie Fury, stepping in as the reigning Diamond Champion and another up and coming Diamond. In Vesper Gold was a new face who had all the potential to be a top star and a worthy champion if she seized the opportunity. It looked as if she would do just that, hitting not one but two hard slams on Jamie in succession.
Then, inside Fury's mind simply said..."not this time." Was it sheer will? An act of divine intervention? Whatever the case may be, a sleeping giant awoke at that moment and it was as if she was revived. At that moment you could feel that the champion was on another level...that level you only reach when you've made it to the top and are desperate to stay there. The next move was hers, and with her suplex slam, "The Sound & The Fury", it was the last of this hellacious match. The ref counted to three as did all of the crowd in the arena, and just like that...Jamie Fury's goal, her mission for the 2009 season had been completed.
Matt: And it's over! She's done it! Jamie Fury has survived the Devil's Playground, and is STILL the Diamond Champion!
The announce team didn't need to even say a word. The look on Jamie's face as the chamber opened and the official handed her the championship belt spoke more than any words could say. She held it with pride and a smile on her face that was both happiness and relief. She conquered the monster.
BuZZ: The saying that was Jamie's motivation all season was "you're not a champion until you defend your title. Well tonight, Jamie Fury is officially a champion, and what a way to defend it!
The crowd chanted "FURY! FURY! FURY!" and it was one of those moments that you just wanted to freeze in time. When they spoke of the career of Jamie Fury, this would be one of those defining moments of it. Who knew what was in store come XGAMES3? For right now, taking in this moment...basking in a champion's glory, that didn't matter.
This night was hers, the night she stepped into hell and came back out with the holy grail still in her hands.
