Since Jeremy Pendelton made his XWA debut, he's seen a nominal success in the company with his limited airtime. Recently the newcomer appeared on a wrestling internet radio show and had some candid comments on the promotion.
So exactly what do you think of the XWA?
If you expect for me to be one of those idiots who complain about it being hard to break in to XWA, you're wrong. I don't think bad about the company. There's nothing at all wrong with it, except maybe for some of the "talent" they hire.
So it's not the place, but some of the people in the place...
Precisely. XWA's not the only game in town...but that only if you want to be a big fish in a small pond.
Well, despite the fact that you signed with the company in January, you haven't had many matches...yet you still claim yourself as being the best new wrestler of 2009. Do you still?
You're damn right I do. Do I look like I'm sweating for a "Rookie of the Year" award? The difference between me and everyone else is that I'm not looking for an easy way in the door.
When I step into the ring, I leave no doubt, or I will leave no doubt, just who the better wrestler is. There's a lot of guys coming up that are almost cut from the same mold, and that to me is a problem. I'm going to be the one to break that mold. I don't need to need to say anything, I'll prove it.
It sounds like you're more focused now on simply wrestling. What's the motivation to change your outlook on things like this?
Because I'm not here to win popularity contests, I'm in the XWA to win wrestling matches. I'll let the guys who like to hear themselves talk do all the talking and let my actions speak for me. Nothing need be said when they're looking up and I'm looking down at them on the mat.
I'm not looking to be "buzzworthy", though I will be if I need to be. I'm going to be the man who will do whatever, however to whoever to reach where I want to reach. My motivation is completely on making Jeremy Pendelton III into a name that is spoken with respect, whether you like me or not.
Alright, you've stated your opinion on the newer talents. Any thoughts on some XWA veterans?
Speaking specifically about TakeDown, whoever is left of the "veterans" of the show need to stop focusing just on each other and watch out for someone like me who not only might steal their thunder...but is gunning to do just that. I don't believe in "pecking orders". I believe that if you want to be a big dog, you need to bite a big dog. For me, it's a not question of if...but when.
Well, there's rumors that Scott Epic is going to do just that, or try to, at XWA Ring Rage against Genesis...
And he's going to get not just bitten, but eaten alive. Seriously, this guy had a hard time putting away one of MG's fellow jailbirds, and he thinks he's ready to step into the ring with the "King Of Controversy"? I'm going enjoy watching that match because it'll be like scouting. I'll see exactly what not to do if I get the chance the face Genesis one-on-one. More importantly when that happens, guys like them will get the chance to see how things are done correctly.
And...do you have any plans for the show?
I'll work a match in somehow. Doesn't matter against who, but I'd rather it be against someone who's got some victories under them, someone who a bit more "broken in" that at least looks like they might give me a challenge. I'm not dealing with tomato cans anymore. I want the hard wins.
All this kinda sounds like you're turning, JP...
Turning? Face you mean? (laughs) Let's get it straight, I'm still going to be as outspoken as ever. I'm still going to say what I feel and tell it like it is, and I guarantee that not too many people will like what I have to say about their "favorite superstars", so turning is not a word I'd use. You could say that I'm changing things up. My focus isn't to lead by example or make examples. It's to set the example.
Well, it'll be interesting to see how that all pans out. Good luck and thanks for stopping by.
My pleasure.
