Legal stuff (XWA management makes me do it. Don't blame me.): The views expressed here do not necessarily reflect those of the Xtraordinary Wrestling Association or its employees or its management.
Dateline: Chicago, IL. 8 August 2009. 9:40pm local time.
Someone once said it's not what you know, it's who you know. While in some businesses that it's true, it's not here. One could be the biggest and baddest in the XWA and they'll never even sniff a shot at a title. Someone once said that it's not the quantity, it's the quality. That's true as well. One can win matches for years and years and never sniff a shot at a title. Take yours truly. For the better part of two seasons, I've been chasing one belt. First known as the X-Gen Championship, I'm now the #2 contender for the XWA No Limits Championship. #2, you ask? Well, if you watch this week's Overload, there was a major announcement among many. The Crucibal comes to XWA. It's the ultimate test of endurance and strength and will. For those facing the challenge, here's hoping their bodies hold up. As for me? Well, I'm looking at the winner of Bryan Yang vs. Kelon. No matter who I get, I'm looking for one thing: TOTAL VICTORY. I accept nothing less, even though I have all of one win in 2009.
I know what you're asking: Hey, Sushi-X, how did you get a title shot after winning only one match? Simple. QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. The XWA has taught me one thing, something I have discovered only in recent weeks after a series ofbloody battles with the controversial !!!JONNY PUNCH!!!. The XWA fans, superstars, and management demand quality matches. If you give it to them, they'll let you know. If not, they'll let you know too.
Sitting in this hospital bed on my laptop as I speak, I'll be watching Yang and Kelon closely. I've had my run-ins with Kelon earlier this season. That's unfinished business. Yang is the top lightweight competitor on the XWA roster. Maybe in the world. I fear no man. I fear no challenge. When I return, I will be looking to take the champion beyond their limit...and take the championship.
Respect is earned. It can also be taken, but only if you're willing to sacrifice. Finally I have mine. But instead of being in North Carolina, I sit in a hospital bed. Tomorrow, I resume my rehab. I may not be cleared in time to compete at Ring Rage. But I will be there. And I will be watching.
X out.
