Well, here we are just about halfway through another season. Things have been going smoothly accept for one rather obvious aspect. Member activity. It's been something we on staff have noticed since April, but not something that concerns us to much. As we always say: "Real life takes priority". And with members going away to College, moving to new homes (Some to new states altogether) and even a few starting families, it's to be expected that activity would dip. That's life. And while we like having consistency here in XWA, we want people to live their lives and not feel obligated to have to be here. As we've said before numerous times, this is a hobby, not a job. Because when an E-Fed becomes a chore to be in, it loses it's fun factor. We don't want that, and we've strived prevent it every step of the way.
For the 1st time ever since we started running this place (Myself & Thr33x) as well as in general in our years in Feds...we can safely say that XWA has remained drama free for over a year now. That's a milestone for ANY E-Fed, and we have no one more to thank then you, our members. For being responsible adults and not letting your personal grievances spill onto the board. Not saying there haven't been any, they've just been kept and address in private, which is the way it should always be done. The lack of activity might have something to do with that as well. It's hard to butt heads with someone when they're not around. But again, that's something out of our control, so we choose not to focus on that, but on what we have in front of us. And what that is...is a bit of an uphill climb.
How so? Simple. As far as Sim E-Feds go, XWA is pretty much the last one of it's kind. With the trend now being people running "CAW Feds" using their own CAWs exclusively, Feds like XWA are hard to come by. Which is why XWA at present is the only one most people know about, especially seeing as the other Sim Feds of XWA's ilk have either been put on indefinite hold or shut down completely. So we have an uphill battle in that we're the only ones left, so that means people are going to be watching what we do more. On average we get well over 120+ "Guests" on the board when shows are posted. These are the people who know of XWA, but have chosen not to join. The "viewers" if you will. Might actually be more people then that. Many people have reasons not to join, some might have CAWs they think are worthy, some might not be good roleplayers, some may just rather stay anonymous spectators. Whatever the case may be, the people we have here, our members...need to continue to push the pace. The people who have remained active throughout it all need to keep things up. If we do that, we're still in good shape.
The average shelf life of an E-Fed is 4-5 years. We're in year 3. Will we get past 5 years? Who knows. But what we do know is while we're up and running now, we're going to remain committed to pushing the pace and being a creative outlet for all who choose to join, be it next month or next season. Until otherwise stated, we're not going anywhere. What we are doing...is adapting. We're good at that. Wholesale changes have been made already with the draft this year, and more changes are most likely still coming. (Like the omitting of Glitter for the time being, putting the Diamonds back to competing on Takedown.) XWA's not in decline by any means. We're in transition. Transition to what? We're not sure yet. We're playing it by ear as always and we'll let the chips fall where they may. But one thing is for certain, we're still very much in our prime...and our best days have still yet to come.
