The night had slowly ticked away. The main event wasn't to far from going down. Fabiola manages to catch Van Hayden backstage. She approaches him about his thoughts on the match.
Van, I'm glad I caught up with you. It's easy to say this is a big night tonight. Takedown Vs. Overload, 3 on 3. The winning team gets one step closer to a World Title shot. We've heard throughout the night what some of the other competitors had to say, what's your take on it?
Van stops. He slowly turns in the direction of Fabiola and speaks up.
My take? That's real simple. Tonight, I'm teaming up with two other men. One in Ryan Blaze that I'm not sure which one will show up. The one that was Pure Champion...or one time No.1 Contender for the World Title, or the one that spent the better part of 2008 being the punching bag of the then X-Gen Division before Jimmy Ames laid his ass out for 5 months. The other one is Scott O'Dell, a man I'm no stranger with. A man who I manage to defend the National Title against in later 2008. As for the opposition, Elsworth and Payne I've seen work, and I've seen them beat the hell out of each other. And Dynamite, well...right place, wrong time. But it might be teams tonight, but the fact of the matter is that it's every man for himself. The winners of this match only win the right to go back to the states and beat the hell out of each other to determine the No.1 Contender. And you know who benefits the most in all of this, Fabiola?
Uhm...no?
The World Champion, Syrus The Entertainer. Because he gets two shows to be able to size up his potential challenger. The fact of the matter is that this year there's gonna be two "Soul Survivors". The guy who wins the Soul Survivor event itself, and the guy who comes out of the next two shows as No.1 Contender. It all comes down to who wants it more. And don't think there's anyone who wants it more then me. The World Title to me is more then a trophy. It's more then a bigger paycheck, endorsement deals and instant recognition. It's more to me then it is to any of the other jokers in this match. To me, it's the final culmination of a two year journey. I've busted my ass to get to this point. I haven't been in high profile matches. I haven't been in main events. I haven't headlines shows. About the only feather in my cap to date is beating Jasta for the National Title. But that being said, I'm still here. Still staring down the barrel of the gun, waiting for it to fire so I can catch the bullet between my teeth. The World Title means to me proof that the blood, sweat and tears I've dripped for this company was worth something. Do the other guys want it more? We'll see about that in the ring.
Van then continues on his way.
Tony: Van Hayden's a man of few words, but when he speaks...oh boy do those words hold weight to them. One of the true warriors in XWA. I don't envy those Takedown guys at all tonight.
