A Unique Challenge (STE)

The entrance theme of Finesse cues up on the PA, and the fans in the Tokyo Dome cheer on the perennial fan favorite as he steps out from backstage. Finesse heads down to ringside with purpose as the cheers continue to pour out from the fans. He slides into the ring and retrieves the mic that had been placed on the apron for him. After the cheers of the fans begin to fade some, Finesse begins.

As per the order of XWA VP Mr. Gallas, tonight is supposed to be a night of competition. A night where match-ups we haven't seen and probably won't see again for a long time can go down. When I heard that, one thing went through my head. "Time ta' get my shine on." At Madness, I failed to defeat Primo for the National Title. It was his night, what can I say. But before that night, I did something that no one on American soil has ever done. Beat him two matches in a row. I might not be National Champion right now, but what I showed without a doubt is that I AM good enough to defeat an champion. And that leads me to the reason why I'm out here. There's a guy backstage who I'm interested in gettin' in this ring with tonight. And that man is the XWA World Champion, Syrus The Entertainer.

The fans cheer the mention of the World Champion.

Sy, real recognizes real, playa. And you've been playin' tha' game to win from the jump. I got nothin' but respect for you, dog. And it's because of that...that I'm layin' out a challenge against you tonight. Because if I can defeat you one on one in this ring. That means that I'm good enough to be World Champion. And if I don't, that just means I gotta go back to the drawing board. You see, family...I plan on standin' where you're at by the end of this season. XWA World Champion. Whether or not it's you I face to win the title eventually, no one knows. But what I do know is tonight, I got an empty dance card, and so do you. So right here, in this ring...live from Tokyo, Japan...

Let's DO THA' DAMN THANG!!!

The fans burst in cheer. All where indeed excited at the prospect of a Finesse Vs. STE match. Finesse turns to the stage awaiting the arrival of Syrus.

It doesn't take too long at all before Tokyo is asked that all-important question:

CAN YOU DIG IT?

CAN YOU DIG IT!!??

CAAAAAAAAN YOOOOOOOOOOOU DIGIIIIIIIIITTTTT!!!


The audience in attendance comes to their feet as the tune "Get Real" begins to play, and only seconds after that the still reigning XWA World Champion steps out from backstage all smiles, high fiving the fans down the aisle as he holsters the title belt on his shoulder.

Matt: Well, I saw Syrus' first defense at Madness, and you can't deny for one second after that encounter that right now the XWA does in fact run on "purple power".

Buzz: I've got no idea how he's still walking around with that belt, to be honest with you. I mean he stepped into the ring in a Pure Rules match against one of the best grapplers in the world, and somehow despite the odds he still found a way to win! That's just his M.O. right now it seems.

Matt: If Syrus showed us anything Buzz, it's that when you're talking about him and that title, you can take odds and throw them out of the window!

Syrus stepped into the ring and took a look at Finesse. He was looking good in his own way, a pretty stylin' kind of guy, or else he wouldn't be running around with a name like Finesse after all. A crew member hands him a mic as he adjusts the title belt on his shoulder.

You know something Finesse? Your about the umpteenth person to say that at some point down this road of a season that he's going to have this bad boy on him, but there's a big difference between you and the rest of these guys. You make it sound as if you know that you're going to have to work for it. Now THAT's really real, brotha!

It's been a grind for me from the start right up until now, and it don't get easier when you're on top. I know that everyone wants them some, and that's all good. Even tonight we got 6 guys who're gonna be taking that first step to see who's gonna be the next in line for this title, so it's non-stop to the top! I had me some plans of my own that I was gonna be doing in the meantime, but since you came out here and called me out, I don't see why I can't give you and all my peeps here in Tokyo what they want!

He breaks as the crowd reacts to his apparent acceptance of Finesse's challenge.

You got one thing right, tonight you do get another chance to see how you stack up against a champion. I'll give you some advice though, no matter what happens tonight, don't ever think that you're just "good enough to win"...cuz in this heezy you gotta strive to be better than that! Better than even victory or defeat. That's what it takes to be the best, and when you have that, it don't even matter if you're a champion or not.

After that small moment of mentoring ;D he waits for a response.

Finesse brings up his mic once again and responds to Syrus' words.

Oh, I done took my fair share of L's to know that those are the matches that matter most. I've learned that the ones you lose can only help you win in the future. It ain't all about W's and L's. it's about learnin' and growin' as a wrestler. Unlike a lot of the young guns in XWA, talkin' out they ass about how they're "The Future" and all, I recognize the fact that I ain't no where near the best yet, cuz I ain't no where near MY best. But I'll get there. And when I do, I'll have learned be it from word of mouth or in this ring from the best talent the world has to offer. Every superstar on Takedown and Overload aspires to hold that title. If you don't, you're either out ya' damn mind or naive. But ya' see, I know that my time will come...in time. I'm only 23 years old, I got a lot...and I do mean a LOT of wrestlin' ahead of me. My popz always used to tell me "The race to success is a marathon, not a sprint." And that's how I choose ta' take things in my wrestlin' career. Because while the next guy is tryin' ta' speed his way to the top, when I get there, ain't no one gonna be able ta' knock me off because I'll be ready physically and mentally ta' hold it down. Tonight ain't gonna be a World Title match, but you can bet ya' fro that you gon' get a World Title effort outta me. Anythin' less would be an insult to you, and these fans here.

The fans were more than appreciative of the respect that Finesse had, and so was Syrus. He nodded and just had one more thing to say.

Matt: Normally, these Japanese fans are more accustomed to regimented, technical matches, but tonight is sure to be one that will entertain when these two men who're arguably the biggest showmen in the XWA mix it up.
