Pride and pain. That was what was collectively the feeling in Sonya's mind and body on this night as she sat in the medical office of the arena almost immediately after her match with Hayley Jonas.
Winning tonight against arguably the toughest woman in all of wrestling was easily a career defining moment for her, and this she knew well by the reactions of the fans after watching theirs, probably the bloodiest, most hard fought encounter of the new season that didn't involve Jonny Punch.
Sonya was proud, very proud. She set out to prove something to herself and in a way she did just that, at the expense of many aches and pain, and a significant scar over her eye as result of a rain of Hayley's famous (or infamous) fists on her skull. There she sat, getting her pretty face patched up by a doctor...smiling slightly.
"Alright Sonya. This should be able to heal up by the next show. It's fortunate that you don't need stitches, but I would suggest that you try to protect yourself next time and try to avoid this from happening again. I do hate it when you ladies get yourselves hurt."
Thanks Doc, I appreciate the concern.
Her cut was bandaged up pretty good. Still, she was going to have to be a little more careful she thought. Getting too carried away was something Sonya promised she wouldn't do again after it cost her the GirlFight finals last year. As she collected her thoughts though, the door to the infirmary opened and someone stepped inside, coming straight in her direction.

That person was the same woman who not less than 15 minutes before she had gone to war with literally. Hayley had tended to her own opening from one of Sonya's kicks, one of the tricks of survival she learned at an early age from her brother back in Detroit. Her head was bandaged up, but you could see a slight trickle of blood from the cut that Sonya's foot provided her face. Sonya looked a little surprised, and the doctor looked extremely concerned.
"Hayley, you know that you should have that properly treated. Let me take a look at it."
I'm alright, Doc. This'll heal up quick, it's not like I have a concussion or anything.
XWA's medical staff had already knew how stubborn Hayley was when it came to being treated, dating all the way back to the first Diamond Devil's Playground match, when her crash landing off of one of the pods of that demonic cell did give her a concussion. Still, the doctor only shook his head and continued on his work. Hayley's attention turned towards Sonya now.
You showed the world something real special out there tonight, red. You showed me something too. Looks like Amber was right about those kicks of yours, huh?

Amber Gianni was one of the first to really give Sonya her due respect after a few encounters in the ring. Getting such a sterling mark from one of wrestling's most popular women meant a lot to her, as did these words from one of wrestling's toughest, of any gender.
Well, I was taught that if you're going to throw a kick, make it stick. I don't think I've ever been taken to that limit though. Not by Amber, not by Jamie, nobody. I picked the right fight tonight against you. I wanted to know where I stood, and now I think I do.

I don't doubt that. I think the whole world knows where you stand right now, honey! Especially me. That's why I want to do it again. You just name the time and the place, and we can show everyone again what the meaning of the word "scrap" really is.
Hayley grinned slightly.
On the real though, you really busted your ass out there to get the win. I wasn't about to pull any punches, and you took them all with some grit. Girls like us don't come along too often, you know? If you ever need some help anywhere, partner, whatever...come see me, okay? As long as I get that match sooner or later.
She outstretches her hand in a display of respect to Ms. Robbins.

This was unexpected. Not only was Hayley complementing her, but she was actually extending her hand to her in friendship? The whole thing was a bit surreal to Sonya, who did keep to herself mostly last year. If there was anyone to be on the good side of though, it was The HellCat...sure beats being on her bad side.
Sure thing. This really means a lot to me Hayley. I'll give you what you want too, no problem.
Even though in secret the last thing Sonya wanted was another match against her. At least until the cut closed up. She accepts Hayley's gesture and they shake hands.
I'll definitely be in touch, Hayley. Thank you...for the match tonight and everything else.

Yep! My pleasure.
Hayley takes a feel of the bandage wrapped around her head and smirks.
Looks like I'll be wearing a hat for a few days. HA! Owwie...Owwie...can't laugh too hard, head hurts. Anyways, I guess I'll be seeing you next week.
With that, she gave a thumbs up as she walked out of the door.

No problem. See you next week.
Sonya waved goodbye as Hayley left. Then suddenly, a light goes off in her head.
Wait...next week? For what!?
As she asks that question she hops off the bed she sat on, maybe a little too fast as now it was her head that hurt slightly, to where the doctor had to help her back from a knee onto the bed.
"I swear, you all are going to kill yourselves if you don't take it easy like I've suggested. Just rest here for a moment, Sonya. I'll get you something for the dizzyness."
Sonya just nods and lays her head down onto the pillow.
Please, not another match yet. I don't know if I can take it...
