Reporting for duty (02A)

[Sonya Robbins]

It was an interesting off season for Sonya Robbins. The fame and popularity from being an XWA Diamond had changed a lot of things about her life. Being the girlfriend of an XWA World Champion changed a lot as well. At this time last year, Sonya was riding on a bus to New York heading to XWA Headquarters to finalize a contract. Now, she was riding into the city in the back of a limo.

You would think that the fame and fortune would have gotten to her. Well, first off it was Syrus who was funding the limo (seeing as it was dark purple), and secondly Sonya was never one to let anything get to her head. That's a recipe for failure.

Pretty soon, most of the XWA's roster would trickle in from wherever they were in the world back to the Tri-State Area. Back to New York City-"Where it all began". She already could see all of the billboards for March Madness scattered throughout the city, on walls, on the side of buses, it was pretty clear that the city was ready for the third year of the XWA and that the XWA itself was ready as well.

So where exactly was Sonya headed? There was to be a "meet and greet" autograph session being held inside of Madison Square Garden, the sight of now going on three XWA PPV events. Fans were already lining up to see whoever it was who was showing up today, hoping that they'd see their favorite superstar.

Admittedly, Sonya was nervous. Despite her success in 2008, she thought of herself as being one of those "in the shadow" Diamonds compared to names such as Amber Gianni, Ashley Diamond and even Jamie Fury who went from rookie to Xtraordinaire in a single year. The limo driver pulls up at the side of MSG and opens the door for her on this mild February afternoon. She slid on the her overcoat and stepped out of the car one high heeled long leg at a time, and when the fans looked over to see who it was, they instantly began to cheer.

"Look man, it's Sonya!"
"Damn, she's so hot!"
"WOOOO-HOOOO!!!"
"SONYA! SONYA! SONYA! SONYA!"

Wow.

That was all the words she could muster up as a security detail walked her into the building. She smiled all the way in, waving at the fans who it seemed had indeed taken a liking to her. Her nervousness was suddenly fading away. There was a whole area of the lobby set up with plenty of tables and space for photo-ops. MSG had already sold out for March Madness 2009, so this was a special treat for the fans as a "thank you" to XWA's hometown crowd. She took a seat at a table after sliding off her overcoat and setting it aside to show off her cute looking dress. It was a single piece with a V-neck and long sleeves, and yes, it was purple.

Sonya relaxed a bit now. It wouldn't be long before some other superstars would appear, and then the day's festivities would begin.

The first person to show up, was her man! His morning was first appearing on a radio show, then appearing on Regis and Kelly (that was fun), all for PR for the company. That's what a World Champion's got to do sometimes. As he was led into the are he looked across the room to see that his ladyfriend was there. Syrus' eyes lit up like fireworks underneath his purple shades, and he made a b-line straight to her table.

Hey girl! Did you miss me?

He smiles as he greeted her with a kiss. Syrus then sat the World Title right on the table and then pulled up a chair right beside her.

Sonya wasn't surprised that Syrus was here at all actually. She knew how much he loved being in the spotlight, and not in that cocky "look at me" kind of way. Together they had been in NYC for last couple of days taking in the sights as well as taking care of business like this, so when she woke up to see he wasn't there, she already knew it was because he had work to do. She understood fully that a lot was going to be asked of him so long as he was "the man". She smiled and nodded.

Of course I missed you honeybunny! You couldn't have imagined that I didn't, could you?

She starts to fidget her hand through that silky smooth afro of his.

So, how was Regis and Kelly? I know they have wrestlers there a lot and they'll probably say something about it on TakeDOwn or whatever, but I wanna hear it from you champ.

Well, it would have been a lot better if my pumpkin was there with me, but you were sleepin' so beautifully this morning that I just couldn't wake you up.

Awww...isn't that so sweet.

It was a lotta fun though. I love Regis, girl...and Kelly's a cutie. Not as cute as you of course.

And it sure wasn't as fun as last night.

Sonya thought back briefly to last night in the hotel.
















They were up all night playing each other in Street Fighter IV, and she was kicking his ass with Crimson Viper.

That was fun, wasn't it? You let me win though. Only because of what I said I'd make you do if you lost. I had a feeling you would have enjoyed that sort of thing.

Now I won't have to hide my chains and shackles anymore.

Looking around to make sure nobody heard what was being talked about...

[Kayn]

*While Syrus and Sonya continued to chat, a door on the far end of the lobby opened and in stepped Kayn. He just arrived back in NYC from Seattle after the off season and he headed straight from the airport to MSG for the XWA meet and greet. With his duffel bag in hand he made his way over to one of the tables to prepare to meet with the fans of the XWA. This was one of Kayn’s favorite things about being part of the XWA, getting to hang out with the fans, sign autographs and also take photos with them. After getting to the table and dropping his duffel bag off, he noticed Syrus and Sonya (like it was hard not to notice either one of them. ) over at another table, so Kayn walked over to say hello. Kayn extended his hand to the champ.*

“Syrus, good to see you again. How’s things?”

*Kayn then looked towards Sonya and gave her a little bow.*

“Sonya, a pleasure as always to be in your presence. I hope I’m not interrupting anything important.”

*Kayn waited for a reply from either.*

Interrupt? Being a bad mofo like you are, it ain't interrupting. You can do what you wanna and nobody would have a problem, and if they did they wouldn't say it to your face.

Even a World Champion has to respect what it is that this man's done in the two years XWA has been in business. He became the first Combatant Xtraordinaire the first year and then only followed that up by compiling "The Streak" in the second after all. Syrus stands up (that's right, to his feet) and gives the big man five up high.

We're waiting for this little shindig to get on. That line out there is getting kinda big now, ain't it?

Syrus took a quick peek outside, and sure enough even in this early hour, the people were still filing in.

Yeah...so whatchu been doing with the free time man?

[Kayn]

*Kayn laughed at Syrus’ comment about being a bad mofo and returned the high five.*

“You know, just kept myself busy. I did a small west coast tour with the band right after the season ended, then spent a few weeks back home with the family. Jumped on a plane last night and landed right here in New York about an hour ago.”

*Kayn turned his attention to the crowd that was gathering at the doors, he turned to Syrus for a moment.*

“I’ll be right back.”

*Kayn then ran over to the glass doors and stood there for a moment. He could hear the fans cheering outside, which prompted Kayn to open the door slightly and stick his head out towards the crowd and yells.*

“Who here is ready to see the XWA World Champion?!?!”

*The crowd exploded with cheers, then Kayn spoke again.*

“Who here is ready to meet the lovely Ms. Sonya Robbins?!?!”

*Once again the cheers emanated from the crowd. Kayn looked back into the lobby at Syrus and Sonya before once again turning his attention back out to the crowd.*

“Is there anyone else you guys want to meet?!?!”

*The members of the crowd started yelling out names of their favorite superstars, everyone from Scott O’Dell to Keith Wyle and even a few for the “Death Metal Goliath” himself . Kayn smiled then made one last statement.*

“OK all, keep your pants on, the doors will be opening soon. We’ll see you in here in a bit.”

*Kayn then closed the door and locked it again as the crowd continued to cheer for the superstars in the building thus far. Kayn then ran back over to Syrus.*

“Sorry about that, but the fans just get me so jazzed up that sometimes I can’t help myself. But hey, who would know better about entertaining the fans than the World Champ himself, right?’

*Kayn patted Syrus on the shoulder.*

“So what did the off season bring to the man in purple?”

All kinds of stuff, dawg! A&R, PR, it's a surprise I've had anytime at all to train for the new year!

Syrus laughs to himself. It really was a whole lot of moving and shaking the last couple of months since winning the title at XGAMES2.

I figure that since I am such a marketable personality that they're gonna milk the "purple power" for all it's worth. Being a fellow "man of the people", you should know all about that though, right?

[Sonya Robbins]

Sonya quickly jumped into the conversation, tugging the bottom of Syrus shirt playfully first.

Don't you worry about that honeybunny. As long as you've got people to pull you away from work to live a little, it's never that busy. And boy is it ever a lot of fun pulling you away.

Keep in mind the earlier comment about shackles and chains, and you'll get the jist of her comment. She too stood up and greeted Kayn, extending her hand to his.

It's nice to meet you too, Kayn. I never though I'd get the chance to meet one of the benchmarks of XWA in the flesh really.

[Kayn]

*Kayn first commented to Syrus.*

“Yea, I know exactly what you’re saying.”

*Kayn then replied to Sonya. He smiled as he shook her hand.*

“Well I must say it is definitely an honor to be standing here with one of the fastest rising female wrestlers in the industry. I watched a lot of your matches last season, and at the risk of sounding like an infatuated fan, you are amazing in the ring.”

*Kayn smiled as he released Sonya’s hand. He then turned his attention to the couple.*

“So what kind of plans do you guys have for the next season, other than defending and winning titles?”

*Kayn chuckled a little as he waited for a reply.*

Well, I got my little show online that imma be doing until they decided they wanna pull the plug. I haven't got any phonecalls or hate mail yet, so I think I might be alright for now.

Other than that, I'm just enjoying life baby! What about you, Red?

[Sonya Robbins]

That was a good question.

Um...I could, no...or I could...no, that wouldn't work. Um...

So good, she had no answer.

I really don't know yet. I guess I'll just be going wherever destiny would have me be, as cheesy as that might sound. And of course, support my Afro Thunder here. When are you going to have me on that show anyway?

Tee Hee...hmmm. Now that I think of it, I do have one thing in mind that I want to do, but I'm going to keep it a secret for now. People are going to think I'm brave, crazy or stupid for it...but it'll be interesting to watch either way.

Has anyone caught onto how they call each other "Pumpkin" and "Honeybunny" yet?
