While the world knew her as Tanden Fearse, XWA Diamond Champion...people closest to her knew her as Teresa Ferrara. Away from the ring, she kept to a simple life. She liked simple. Having grown up in Chicago's high society, she had a healthy respect for keeping things simple. It was that reason alone that made her pursue her current path as a wrestler, as opposed to following in her family's footsteps. It was now mere days before all XWA wrestlers were called back into action. A new season would begin, and with it would come the next chapter in her life and times.
As she sat at the edge of her bed, dressed only in pink hot pants and a bulky Led Zephlin T-Shirt, she pondered the journey ahead. This would be her 1st full year as an XWA competitor, and though in the short time she'd been in 2008, she climbed the ladder fast, attaining without a doubt the most coveted title in all female wrestling. But she wondered how long it would last. If she had the talent needed to make this run not just a feel good story, but part of her legacy. The only lengthy reign of an XWA Diamond Champion was the 1st one, and while she knew it was rare anyone could mirror the success of Ashley Diamond, she wanted to embed her stamp on the title all the same.
*Sigh*
It seemed like just yesterday she'd outlasted three very game females at XGames II for her 1st defense. But that was then, and this was now. She knew she now had a bullseye on her back. That everyone would claim she was "Lucky". But Teresa had other ideas. Since the day she wrestled her 1st match, she was the underdog. Always out sized. Always out skilled. Many people and critics said her place was beside the ring, not in it. But if there was one thing she predicated her career on, it was doing things differently. Breaking molds and pushing limits. This would be more of the same. She was champion, yes. But she still felt she had something to prove. Not just to the wrestling world, but to herself. As she lay back on her bed, a saying her father would always say played back in her mind...
"Be the best at what YOU do, and the rest will come to you."
...He was of course talking in the sense of business, but it played that much true in wrestling as well. Teresa knew she didn't have the best skill set in the world. But what she was good, if not the best at, was defying the odds. And the odds were always against her. Even so, it was the thrill of it all that made it all worth it. A familiar feeling she got in the pit of her stomach in the heat of the moment. She scoots up to the top of the bed and lays back. Tonight, she would rest. Because in just a few days time, XWA's Diamond Champion would need to be at full attention and on top of her game.
