Several days after the Awards Ceremony took place. One of Brandon Payne's Representatives released a press statement regarding his recent knee surgery to repair some torn cartilage around his right kneecap:
"I'm happy to announce that as of 9:02 am est. time. Brandon Payne went in for arthroscopic knee surgery to repair the cartilage torn from his knee cap several months ago during a match in September. The surgery was a complete success and he is now resting comfortably in his room. With the surgery lasting nearly an hour. No knee brace will be needed for his in-ring performances, as the injury turned out to not be quite as severe as we originally thought. Nonetheless, Mr. Payne would like to let everyone know that he is doing fine and will be ready to wrestle come March 2009, thank you."
Brandon Payne has been suffering with the nagging injury since mid-September before his match with XXL. The dirt sheets allegedly said that he suffered the injury during his tag match with XXL against Robby Sylk & Ethan Bain on Takedown before the Only the Strong event. Its been an injury that has continued to worsen over the next couple of months. Getting to the point to where Brandon was in alot of pain and having to tough it out during his in-ring appearances and matches to follow. He was advised to not work the match at X-Games. But chose to go against doctor's orders. With the injury now out of the way. Payne is putting all of his focus onto the upcoming 2009 season, and will begin training to be ready for March Madness.
