Jon Payne's Profile...
* Height: 6'6"
* Weight: 252 lbs.
* Hair: Brown
* Eyes: Black
* Hometown: Detroit, MI-now residing in New York, NY
* Age: 28
* Years In Wrestling: 8
* Theme Song: "Separate" by Bro-Kin
* How It Started: Contrary to what most people think, I started out in wrestling on my own. I was 20 years old at the time, breaking into the business in the WWA after training in Shotokan Karate the previous 4 years under Master Hito Taguchi in Hokkaido, Japan. I had a decent run alongside of another young gun named Brendan Snyder. After a good 3 years we were Tag Champs when I heard that one of the vets in the company was actually starting his own training gym. I was one of the first to join, and well...you know the rest of that story by now.
* Gimmick: Quite simply put...The Evolution Of Combat. I'll face anyone on any terms to test not just my skills, but theirs. You'll know where you stand in this game when you've faced me. I am the ultimate opponent.
* Wrestling Style: I absorbed everything into my style that's legal. Some say I'm the best striker in the history of wrestling. In addition to Karate, I've studied Muay Thai as well. Aside from that I use high impact moves, and recently after time training in Brazil, my submission game has reached another level. I'm what you call a total package. There's nothing I can't do well.
* Gear/Outfit/Costume: Green and black with Matrix coding. It's been my trademark since late 2006 really. People call me "Neo" because of that...but I say to that the fact that I kick ass much ass as he does as well!
* Titles Held: I'm a former WWAM World Champ, VWE Tag Team champion with Anthony Xavier back when he called himself Cabal and an XWAWorld Champion, though I had to relinquish the belt before I could ever defend it. Personal stuff.
* Biggest Win: That night at Vendetta 2008 when I beat the Destroyer, Simon Fierhart. It wasn't so much about just winning the XWA Title there as much as it was doing so by beating one of the most violent, methodical men to ever lace them up. It also helped that it was in Japan as well, a country that is big on straight up wrestling, which was exactly what that match was.
* Worst Loss: Dropping two matches in a row, in two different companies, to one man. Hell it made him frickin' famous...before that he was just another loudmouth, after it he was just another loudmouth who could actually wrestle a good match. What was the killer was that I had to endure as many months of him using it like a trophy before I got him back for it. If I had the chance...his last XWA match I would have pinned him instead of Syrus Sykes. Think of that as a favor.
* Favorite Type of Match: I would have to say Pure Rules. After a few matches under those rules, I've kind of taking a liking to the style. I might very well be competing in more of them in 2009...
* Favorite Moves/Holds: My kicks are lethal. I throw enough of them in a match to make people think that they're watching an MMA fight and not a wrestling match. It's not my fault some people don't know how to block! I also can't wait to get in there and use some of the new knowledge I have on submission wrestling. I've got a few new holds that some are not going to like very much.
* Finisher: The PayneKillers. Version 1 is my tried and true Fireman's Carry Slam, kind of like an inverted Death Valley Driver. Version 2 is three knees, two to the gut and one to the head, facebuster style. Looks good, but it won't feel good to anyone who I use it on!
* Biggest Allies: They're all out on their own things, but I know that if I needed them that guys like XXL and Evan Fate would always have my back. We're practically family. Hayley Jonas is a good friend of mine as well. She's been doing some training with me the last few months too, can't wait to see how it works out for her. Then of course, I have to say my leading lady Kim Angelos. She's been away for a while, but she's ready to get back into the swing of things this year...of course I'll be looking out for her.
* Most Hated Enemies: My enemies...none in the XWA that I know of. Most in the XWA already know where I stand as one of the best in the business, and those that don't aren't ballsy enough to put themselves in a match against me to see for themselves, so enemies? None.
* Favorite Wrestlers: Riot, my mentor. He's still a beast. Fellow student of mine under him Jayson Jones...his athleticism is sick. Kayn, I was one of the many who fell to him during his streak, and I can tell you the man is the real deal. Yoshi Togo, whom I've had the pleasure of facing before. Be glad none of you will ever have to in the XWA.
* Wrestling Ambition: Long term, to continue to improve. Many would say that I'm one of, if not the best wrestling in the business. I say I'm not. I'm still learning, still evolving. Evolution is an ever constant thing after all, and that's my real goal...to continue to evolve myself into not just the greatest wrestler in the world, but the greatest fighter. 2009 has me focusing on two new things, Pure Rules wrestling for one...and MMA. Can I be the first man to be a wrestling and MMA champion at the same time? We'll see.
Jon Payne's Personal Notes...
You already know what the deal is, or at least you should. Beating me in the ring means that you're at your absolute best, because that's exactly what it's going to take. There's not much else for me to say because it gets old really fast. A lot of men in this business say that they're the best...few of them prove it. I'm one that has, and is willing and able to prove it even more to whoever is man enough to answer the call.
