As the show progresses, the fans spectators had already been treated to the sights and sounds of XWA. However, over the last week rumors has spread throughout the wrestling world that a certain future hall of famer would be making the trip to Greece. Rumor no more...as a familiar theme sounds of the PA.
Godsmack's "I Stand Alone"...
An eruption surges through the Peace & Friendship Stadium as the fans cheer on the arrival of the legendary Andrew Nedermeyer. He stops at the top of the set and takes a look around as the the roof of the building almost comes off. With a smile on his face, he makes his way down to the ring. He rolls into the ring and extends his hand out to the PA announcer for the mic, patting him on the back as he leaves the ring. Standing in the middle of the ring, he takes in the crowd chanting and cheering for him. Raising the mic, he speaks...
There comes a time in a man's life when he reaches that fork in the road. When he has to make a choice. The choice that'll separate what he was from what he's become. 8 months ago, I came to that fork. After I voiced my displeasure with how that "other" place did there business, and fresh after Prison Break match III, I had a decision to make. And that decision was did I want to continue. Despite the fact that my last match was a losing effort, I went out on top. I was an 8 time World Champion. One of only 4 men in American wrestling HISTORY to go over a year unbeaten. And I was...and STILL am the bench mark of super heavyweights in this industry. The night, I sat down with Heather, and I weighed all my options. And I came to the conclusion that I had nothing left to prove. So a week later in Toronto, I held a press conference announcing that I was calling it a career.
Buzz: I remember that night well. Brought a tear to my eye seeing him go...
Roach: Shut up, Buzz.
Buzz: Sorry.
Now, since that day, I've been content with the way things have gone. I've been able to enjoy life. And in that, I got a call about 3 months ago from Rodolphe Gallas offering me a job behind the scenes in XWA. So I took it, and I took a few of XWA's young talents under my wing. I was happy with that. But then, about two months ago, a young man stepped into XWA. A man by the name of Ethan Bain...
The crowd begins to boo his name.
A young man who's thus far turned XWA on it's ear. A young man who it seems has it out for yours truly. I've sat and watched the last few weeks. I've seen how Bain comes out here and demands me to step in the ring with for a match. And I've seen him beat man after man after man trying to prove his point. Men like Bryan Hanzell, Jared Chase, Sylas Styles, Evan Fate and most recently Cabal Xavier. All men who are no slouches. Which means that YOU'RE no slouch, Bain. So people have been asking me since you went on your little crusade "Why don't you respond to him?" Why? Because I'm a retired man. My days of wrestling are done. And that's what I was prepared to tell you and the world, Bain.
What I WAS prepared to say.
The crowd cheers even louder...
But two weeks ago, when I was home in Cleveland. I got paid a visit by a man I've come to know as a good friend. A man I came up with in this business. That man is Yoshi Togo. And he asked the same question everyone else has. What are YOU going to do about this? So I told him. And what he said in response is what hit home for me. He said "Sometimes, the choice you make at the time seems right, but in the end, it's not what your mind thinks, but what your heart beats that's the true answer." Now not many people know Yoshi like I do, and I know him well enough to know that it's not just philosophical crap he speaks, but TRUTH. And a long, loooooooooooooong time ago, when I was just a kid, my dad told me when a man is man enough to call you out to a fight, you go go out...and you FIGHT 'em.
So Ethan Bain. You want an answer to your challenge? You've GOT one. ONLY THE STRONG. Everything you have...against ME. You wanted yo get my attention. You've GOT it.
A thunderous boom from the crowd erupts in the arena...
Buzz: D...did I just hear right??? Bain vs. THE MONSTER at Only The Strong??? HOLY CRAP!!!
Roach: Ladies and gents, in one week's time, The irresistible force meets the immovable object. Dru Nedermeyer RETURNS TO THE RING!!!
Dru nods as the crowd chants.
But it's not just stopping with you, Bain. You see, XWA is full of guys I personally think a little lesson in humility. Guys who think they're bigger the the business. There's just one little problem to that fellas. You're NOT BIGGER THEN ME.
Consider THAT...XWA being put on notice. Daddy's home, kids.
Dru drops his mic as his music cues over the PA. Dru steps through the second rope and drops down to the arena floor. He looks out to the crowd, which is electrified of his announcement. Dru begins to walk back up the walkway as the show goes to break.
