Impossible Mission? (Kayn)

For the second of three weeks, the XWA would call the city of Las Vegas home. This week it would be the Mandalay Bay Events Center that TakeDown would emanate from. As the show continued, the familiar sound of Magnus' themesong echoed through the arena. The German born grappler stepped out from backstage as he always does, dressed in a black business suit. He walks down the aisle as he always does, eyes focused on the ring that lay ahead of him.

Roach: Buzz, have you ever seen a man who's more focused than MVS so far in the XWA?

Buzz: Few and far between are the kind of men who take this business as seriously as Magnus does, I'll tell you that much. And what separates him from them is the fact that he doesn't treat it like a business. It's all sport to him.

Roach: Born and bred in amateur wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling and shoot wrestling, Magnus continues to impress us week after week, and last week was no exception as he put on a wrestling clinic against of all people the former World Champion Ethan Bain!

Buzz: That's the thing, this is top-tier talent that he's knocked off. Syrus, Jon Payne, Robby Sylk and now Ethan Bain one-on-one? You've got to believe that this man is the real deal.

And as the discussion goes on with the announcers about his XWA career thus far, MVS steps inside of the ring to address the crowd, the world and one man in particular about his next goal.

Last week, I came out here and I accepted the challenge of a man who is considered to be one the benchmarks of this sport. A man who up until recently stood proud as the World's Champion. Ethan Bain indeed demonstrated that he is in fact a wild, raging beast...but I in return demonstrated that in all aspects of combat strategy and skill will prevail where brute strength fails. I will not stand here and gloat over a well deserved victory...I will merely state to Mr. Bain that the door will always be open for you young man, should you wish to gain further enlightenment...but not this week.

This week, after much debating I have decided to make a move towards a concept that has intrigued me for quite some time now. That is the concept of Pure Rules wrestling. I am a foremost expert in "pure" wrestling, for few if any in this company's wrestling is more pure than my own.

He pauses to take a look around at the crowd's responses to his statements.

I have bested some of the finest opposition this company has to offer, but as I watched more and more of these Pure matches it became apparent that this was not just another "niche" in the "business" of wrestling. It's all about your own skill versus your opponent's. There's no room for error and hesitation, and the man who is more focused is the man who is the victor...

...yet focus is the last thing that I see from the man who currently represents "Pure" wrestling.

Buzz: Welp, here we go now...

Mr. Kayn, I have watched your last two encounters, and victories nonetheless, you cannot call yourself a pure wrestler. Much like Bain, I see in you a savage beast who simply attacks at will with no forethought. You possess incredible power, and equal drive, but having a certain amount of tools can only get you but so far.

At present, you have the distinction of being the longest reigning champion in the history of the XWA...but that is exactly what it is. History. Immortalized in the record books. That is not what it is that I see in you Kayn. I see a raw, unmitigated yet unpolished individual who has on many occasions found a way to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. It will take more than good timing to defeat Magnus Von Schwartz. It will take more than the "heart of a champion".

It will take every ounce of skill in your body to defeat me, for I unlike you am truly "pure". Relying on your power and your fists have gotten you this far, but you are going to have to as they say "dig deeper" than that to find a way to snatch victory from my hand.

Roach: Just look at the focus on the granite-like face of Magnus Von Schwartz. He wants be the next in line for the still reigning Pure Champion, and I don't think it will be long before he gets his wish...

[Kayn]

*It wouldn’t take long for Magnus to get his answer as “Hammer Smashed Face” began to play over the house system. The crowd responded in cheers as the Pure champion walked out onto the stage with the Pure title over his shoulder. He looked out and pointed to the crowd before making his way to the ring.*

Buzz: ”This guy is out of his mind. Wrestling my thug brutha MG is one thing, but he’s seriously answering the challenge of the ‘King of Sport’? He’s lost it Roach.”

Mike: ”I don’t know about that partner. Kayn has beaten some of the best this sport has to offer in the past few weeks, what’s not to say he won’t continue his reign?”

*By this time Kayn had reached the outside of the ring. He paused for a moment and looked at Magnus before climbing into the ring and climbing the turnbuckle. He pulled the Pure title from his shoulder and held it high for the crowd to see, which they reacted with the usual cheers for the man that many might consider the champion of the people. As Kayn lowered the title he slowly turned and looked at Magnus who still stood in the ring. He placed the title back on his shoulder, jumped off the turnbuckle and asked for a mic from the ring announcer as his music faded. Kayn raised his mic and spoke.*

“You know, the past few weeks have been interesting for me. First I get challenged by one Jon Payne. *huge pop for Jon as Kayn continued* Then I accepted the challenge laid out by Pollox Troy. *mostly boos for the mention of Pollox’s name* And now… well now I have a challenge laid out to me by a man that most would arguably say is wrestling personified, Magnus Von Schwartz. Sometime it amazes me what type of people want to be your ‘friend’ when you have a title around your waist.”

*The crowd responded with cheers for Kayn as he continued.*

“Magnus, you are an amazing athlete, no doubt about it. Pound for pound you are one of the best true athletes in this company, but there is a big difference between ‘true’ and ‘pure’. You say I cannot call myself a pure wrestler because I’m a savage beast who simply attacks with no forethought, and while that may be true, this savage beast has something that it seems everyone wants all of a sudden, *Kayn begins to point to the title on his shoulder* and that is this. Now I’ve watched your matches Magnus, I really have and while I have all the respect in the world of you and your abilities, I do have a question for you.”

*Kayn takes a few steps closer to Magnus until he’s about a foot away from him. His face becomes deadpan and his eyes seem to become colder as he raises his mic.*

“What makes you think you’re any different than all the other bodies in my path of destruction?”

*The crowd explodes as Kayn lowers his mic and give Magnus a chance to reply.*

Ever the stoic one, Magnus' raises his microphone, his stone-chisled face shows little emotion.

What makes me "different" you ask? Quite simple my good man...I am Magnus. That is what makes me different.

You would be wise not classify me in the category of merely a "body", for I am much, much more than that. In this era of brawlers and powerhouses and hybrids, let it be known that the best wrestlers are the one who can adapt to any style. That is me. I do not specialize in one or two elements, I excel in all of them. Make no mistake that there isn't anything that you bring to this ring that I cannot find a way to quell...because there isn't much that you bring.

No budge, no movement.

Your forte is your power. When that fails, you rely on your fists. When both of those are negated, what have you left? The same as young Bain last week, nothing. It pays to be a jack of all trades rather than a master of few Mr. Kayn, because that increases your effectiveness. That is the kind of wrestler whom you stand in the presence of on this night. That is Magnus, that is wrestling in it's truest AND purest form, and the difference you ponder. This is not just about your belt or even about your more precious win streak. This is about showing you and the world what the true definition of Pure Wrestling is...and it's not you Mr. Kayn. It is me.

[Kayn]

*Kayn listened to Magnus and as he finished Kayn smirked a little before raising his mic.*

“Oh Magnus, Magnus, Magnus, I do appreciate the fact that you’ve scouted me and watched my matches but do you really think I only rely on my size and strength? You don’t think those few well placed spears were on purpose, or that my attacking my opponent’s torso isn’t a setup for ‘The Final Nail’? Magnus, you don’t give me enough credit. If I didn’t use my brain along with my power, I wouldn’t be the longest running champion in the history of this company.”

*The crowd cheers for Kayn, he pauses for a moment and looks out to them before focusing back on Magnus and continuing.*

“You know, you and I are a lot alike Magnus on the inside. We both love this sport, we both thrive on the competition of it, you were trained classically in the sport while I honed my skills in underground Seattle federations, but we are both well oiled wrestling machines and we both know what we are doing. The biggest difference between us though is that while you wrestle for yourself and your place in the history of this business, *Kayn then starts to point out to the fans in the crowd as they start to cheer.* I wrestle for all those people in the seats in these arenas and at home watching. I do this for the fans as well as for the love of the sport and I don’t care how strong or how smart you are, there is nothing that can motivate someone like that.”

*The crowd explodes as Kayn pauses again, then makes his next statement.*

“So Magnus, if your whole plan is to attempt to stop just my power game, then you may want to change your game plan.”

*Kayn lowered his mic and gave Magnus a chance to make another statement.*

Intriguing. So you imply that maybe, just maybe there is more to your strategy that mere impulse and impact? What an interesting concept that would be.

He takes short peek around to those very screaming people who were in full support of the Pure Champion.

To think that there is something more, some kind of inner working that has seen you to your success that nobody can comprehend, like some sort of secret weapon? This is nothing that I am not capable of deciphering, Mr. Kayn. I assure you that I'm every bit as capable of scouting an opponent in a match as I am before one. Whatever you try, I will have a proper response to.

He slowly begins to pace around the ring now, finally showing some motion.

But these fans?

The great paradox between the East and the West. In Europe and Japan, you do not gain your support based on your charisma or personality. They don't classify you by whether or not you're good or bad, or bland or entertaining. It is the competition they crave. It is the sport they seek. My name needs no introduction there, but here...the concept becomes different.

Here, there is that "third man". That unfounded "momentum" that the fans give off that some know how to feed off of. Can that honestly be some form of a weapon that determines victory? I think it personally to be a myth! If they are your inspiration, then next you'll tell me that there's a Santa Claus or Tooth Fairy, will you not? The sport is all that matters to me, not these fans, for there are many great men in this sport that these fans have never even heard of. Their lack of popularity affects not their standing amongst the greatest of all time.

Magnus returns back to where he stood now.

Your place on that list is assured Mr. Kayn, but even still I am more than prepared for whatever it is that you may try. If you claim that I do not know all of what that may be, then this indeed shall be the game of human chess. A test not only of the physical, but the mental as well. Perhaps you know something of the purity of wrestling after all...we shall see how great that knowledge of yours truly is.

[Kayn]

*Kayn raises his mic to reply to Magnus.*

“Magnus, I will guarantee you that you have no idea what I will do in the match, because I can assure you I have no game plan in place. The only thing I know that I will do is what I have done 10 times before, and that is survive and walk out of this ring with this belt still in my possession.”

*The crowd cheered as Kayn stepped closer to Magnus to give one final comment.*

“You want this title? Then take it from me, if you can.”

*His music started to play over the PA system as Kayn stood toe to toe with a man that could very well be his toughest opposition to date. After a few moments Kayn then left the ring and headed up the ramp to the back stage area.*

Mike: ”The champ seems confident he’s going to hold onto that title tonight.”

Buzz: Oh yea? Talk to him through his tears after he loses tonight. Someone’s undefeated streak ends tonight and I personally can’t wait for it.”

*Kayn reached the stage area and turned to look back in the ring. He then raised the Pure title over his head as the crowd cheered. He stood for a few moments like that then lowered the belt. He took one last good look at his opponent for the evening before going behind the curtain.*
