May 9th, 2008: "Wild Thing" James Bowen announced he had suffered a major knee injury. Ten years on the road, every single day, had taken a toll for the 24-year-old rocker. He had to undergo a major reconstructive surgery (not a scope) to repair his knee. A month later, he started rehabilitating himself back to normal. Although he had just finished rehabilitation, he is now training in his Atlanta wrestling dojo, alongside his students, to help him return from an injury that would end a normal man's career.
Q = Question
JB = James Bowen
Q: James, what have you been doing since your injury?
JB = Well, I took the doctors' advice for surgery and rehabilitation on my knee. I really wanted to get back in the ring by the fall, maybe late-October/early-November.
Q: So, you are already aiming at a timetable to return?
JB: Oh yeah, I love wrestling. I've been doing this for a long time, and I have no intentions to stop.
Q: Well, it seems you really have no enemies?
JB: No, I get along very well with everybody. If any upstarts wanted some advice, I'll give it to them. You know, when you're in this business, winning and losing isn't everything, as long as you're having fun and you enjoy wrestling, no matter what.
Q: You started very young, James, did you?
JB: Yes, I started out when I was 14.
Q: Your persona is very colorful and very popular; what's the secret to your success?
JB: Well, I am also a rock guitarist and singer. Living life as a wrestler is the same as a musician: you go on the road all the time, go to different places and venues, and entertain the fans. The fans always get their money's worth. If one fan went and said, 'wow, James Bowen had the best match of the night, win or lose,' then I accomplished my goal.
Q: What do think of the entire roster in XWA?
JB: I wrestled quite a few of them, as well as watched all the shows, I have to say they're the future of this business. I'm one of the few that are still around, putting all the newer talent over, which is no big deal to me. Because I've done it all and I wouldn't change a single thing.
Q: Now I know you watch the female roster's show Glitter very often.
JB: Who wouldn't? I am a big fan of real Women's wrestling. I really appreciate the talent that they possess and the years they spent honing their skills. I know these babes really wrestle and that's more important.
Q: Well, I hope to see you back in action in the fall.
JB: I will. Right now, I'm training in the ring to get the ring rust off, so when I do return, I will be 110%. To all my fans, thank you for the get well letters, and hope to rock the competition when I come back. Rock on!
