The sound was like music to the man's ear...even more so than the sweet sound of Hendrix filling MSG. Tonight was not an easy not by any means, but in the end it was his. What was going to be in store for the future? Would Bain declare his rematch or not? And what about XXL making a claim for the title himself? Right now that all made no difference.
That's because right now, he stood victorious, two falls to one against one of the best pure wrestlers in the world. A man who countless other failed to beat even once...and now to the victor goes the spoils, a platinum plated belt encrusted with diamonds that read "world wrestling champion"...and it was at that point that it had all began to sink in.
The success of Viewer Discretion. The Tag Team Titles. Soul Survivor 2007. Up to and including this moment, Sylk was a venerable success story in the XWA, and in wrestling in general. The new generation now more than ever was making it's mark on the business, and now after Scott O'Dell, Jon Payne, Keith Wyle and Ethan Bain, it was Sylk's turn to make his mark as the XWA Champion...
...unlike those others though, this was going to be a whole new ballgame. He raised the title high in one hand for all to see, standing center ring triumphant...realizing a dream, fulfilling a destiny he believed he would from the moment the ink dried on his contract back in 2007. It could all be best described now in the words of Mike Roach and Buzz Berman as Independence Day drew to a close:
Roach: What a feeling it must be for Robby Sylk right now, winning the XWA Title here in the mecca of all of sports entertainment!
BuZZ: Ask anyone who's done it, and they'll tell you that winning the big one here has that extra special meaning to it. You think of the legends that were made inside of this building, and to do what they've done...well...it makes you a part of that mythos.
Roach: It's not just the mythos of The Garden though, it's the way that Sylk did it. I don't think anyone anticipated him winning this match after seeing the dominance of such men as Primo and Magnus in the past few weeks. I was confident that it was going to be one of them to walk out of here with the belt, or the ex-champion retaining, as stacked as the odd were against that happening.
Buzz: The fact that Sylk did it, and the fact that he and alone it seemed believed he could, that's going to inflate this man's ego even bigger than it was when he got here. All that talk about destiny and so on, it was all just hype before...now it's truth, and I don't think for a second that we're gonna hear the last of it.
Roach: We won't have a choice. There so much uncertainty right now regarding who might be his first challenger. Will it be Bain? Will it be XXL? With ultimate victory comes the realization that now you're the prey and not the hunter anymore...but I don't think that Robby Sylk wouldn't mind the attention one bit.
Buzz: Yep, you said it. Robby Sylk is the new XWA Champion. The "Gold* Era" as he calls it is officially upon us! Hide your wives and girlfriends.
