In a candid backstage interview, Pollox Troy sits in the XWA studios in NYC to speak with head correspondent and Takedown Colorman Buzz Berman.
Well Pollox, you heart it from the horse's mouth. You seemed to have got under the skin of a certain superstar. We know that man as "The Evolution" Jon Payne. What do you have to say about his recent comments on his blog?
Simple. I find it funny how a guy can speak so big and bold in cute little text on a blog. I'm not gonna mince my words at all. Jon Payne is a dime a dozen wrestler. If you could even call him that. You see Buzz, I'm old school. I've been doing this for 12 1/2 years. I've done more in my career then 95% of the entire XWA roster. I've held more titles then everyone on the payroll, spanning 5 continents. He talks of me saying my pedigree is higher? That's because it is. When you've reached the point in my career that I have. You've got no choice but to find the little things amusing. And Jon Payne? He's one of the "Little Things".
I'd hardly thing Jon Payne's a little thing, but...
Answer me this, Buzz. What has Jon Payne done? Seriously. What in his so called "illustrious" career has he done of any significance? Won the XWA World Title, just to hand it over because of his own screwed up personal life? Yea, I do my homework. I'm in the business of doing my homework. That's how I always keep my edge. He said himself that he doesn't know of all that I've done in my career. Maybe that's because he's been satisfied to stay in his own lil' comfort zone, where the places he's worked all have either friends of his in high places, or are run by people he's close to in his personal life. Jon Payne, is all...hype. Let him step into a ring that isn't owned by Blackheart, Gallas or Fate, and let's see how he fairs.
Are you claiming that he gets hand outs from corporate?
If it looks like an orange, and smells like an orange, it damn sure isn't a lemon now, is it? What man do you know can compete in a major tournament for a World Title shot, sit out a whole god damn month, then all of a sudden show back up at the next PPV and decide he wants a title shot? I'll tell you what man does that. One who's on the take. Jon Payne hasn't done anything to deserve any form of title chance. He can talk about how great he is until he's "green" in the face. Fact of the matter is that he's a one trick pony. And his one trick is filling arenas across the country with hot air. The only credible opponent I'll say he's even faced one on one so far was Levine. And yes, he beat Levine. No easy task. So the kid does have skill. But who else has he faced of any notoriety? No one. I don't even know who the hell an Austin Harris is. Is he presently working for XWA? Has he competed anytime within the last 3 months? No. But he feels free to parade around the fact that he's so good.
He spoke of facing Syrus The Entertainer when he first showed up in XWA. Good for you, son. You managed to best STE before he found his craft. Get in the ring with him now and see if you're up to snuff. Wait...you did, didn't you? The Soul Survivor Finals, and that didn't work out to well for you, did it kid? And I also heard a few months back you talking about possibly getting in the ring with Sylas Styles. Well I have been in the ring with him. 5 times now. And he's up on me 3-2 head to head. I've seen what Sylas Styles can do in the ring. I've seen that he can take the most ruthless and tireless beatings imaginable, and find a way to win. I had him beat hook, line and sinker in almost every match. Let alone our last match where I tossed his ass around like a rag doll. And he found the fortitude to withstand the pain, and mount a comeback. Sylas Styles is a man I respect. Because for all of his talking, he backed it up when it came down to it. All I've seen of you, is just talk. Sitting in the wings, collecting you paycheck for sitting on your ass.
Those are some bold words, Pollox. You sure they won't come back to haunt you?
Why? What the hell do I have to fear of Jon Payne? What's he gonna do, get me fired? Men like him need a wake up call. He's been as successful as he's been because he doesn't stray from home. C'mon now. We all know he's got Blackheart in speed dial. We all know he's on the take. Let's not even beat around that bush. He's an over privileged spoiled brat. Let him step into a ring where he has no influence in. And when he does, if he can even come close to what I've achieved in my career, then maybe. Just maybe...I might actually respect the kid. But until that day, if it ever even comes. Let him be a keyboard warrior. Let him get his jollies off writing his little blog and thinking that his meaningless opinion matters. Because it doesn't.
There comes a time to grow up, son. I'm 38 years old. I've seen, beaten, and been beaten by some of the best this industry has ever seen. I know...star quality when I see it. And you? You're not it. You'd fail in any other company aside from XWA, simply because what you do, is the same thing everyone else does. I don't trash talk. I speak facts. And the fact in this situation is that...well...I'm in your head. Because weren't, I wouldn't have gotten my own lil' blog piece from you, wouldn't I? But it is nice to see that you're thinking about me, son. Maybe one day, when you're all grown up, you might actually see past your own self-righteous ego. But until then, keep bein' a doll, sweety.
Pollox winks into the camera.
This interview is over.
He takes the mic clip off his collar and tosses it onto the seat. He then gets up and walks out of the studio.
