The time for the Wargames match was drawing near. Johnny was physically and mentally ready for what was sure to be a grueling contest. But he was no stranger to beating the odds, and surving in brutal matches that would break the average man. He sat alone in the locker room, preparing his mind for the task ahead. He would have to potentially go through 9 men out of the 18 chosen before attaining a spot in The Last Dance, the biggest match of XWA's season. And of course his confidence was high. He stands up from his seat and heads for the front door.
Showtime.
He exits the locker room, and heads down a narrow corridor on his way to the set entrance. But his walk was preempted...

With Permission
*And it was Punch responsible for it. From behind a well placed stack of boxes, Punch springs out and catches Aces by surprise. He hits hime with a shot flush in the face that staggers him back, and follows up with a series of continuous shots behind it. He grabs Aces by the collar and waist of his pants, then tosses him into the boxes he sprung from behind. He follows up with repeated stomps to his sternum. He looks around, and spots a conveniently available weapon, a lead pipe. Punch picks hit up, rares back, and comes down with a shot onto Aces' sternum once more. He tosses the pipe aside, and leaves Aces with these chilling words*
Consider that a gift from THE COALITION! You ain't done with me by a long shot, BITCH.
*Hearing someone drawing close, Punch quickly flees from the scene of the crime*

Kris Cade was on his way to the stage to get a closer look at the match that was already underway. This corridor was the fastest way there, so he decided to take it. But he would soon come to the sight of Johnny Aces pretty much laid out. He rushes in to give Aces a hand, who was beaten up, but it appeared not seriously hurt.
ACES! Hey, are you alright man?

Clutching his stomach and sides, Johnny stands with the aid of Kris.
Ain't nothin' that a good ol' shot a' Jack wouldn't help. That chump Punch sure knows how ta' swing a mean pipe...

Kris found Johnny's words most unsettling. It was obviosu this was the handy work of his oldest XWA Rival, Jonny Punch. It seemed he and Aces now shared a common bond. Suffering at the hands of a Punch backstage ambush.
Punch did this? Son of a bitch. I should have put that half drunk derelict out of his damn misery when I had the chance. Are you gonna be okay to wrestle tonight?

Aces stretches out to test the old joints. He was going to be just fine...
It's gonna take a hell of a lot more then a lead pipe to the gut to put me out of my misery. The hell was he spoutin' off about "A gift from The Coalition" though?

Those words were even more unsettling the Aces' previous comment. In his absence Kris had totally forgot about the company Punch now kept. Most notably the man who aided Punch in the ambush following OTS 07, Primo. Kris responds.
What it means is that someone with a real superiority complex now views you as a threat. Looks like you're moving up in the world rather fast. I know a few things about dealing with Punch and his crew. And something tells me tonight is only the beginning of what's gonna be a very long year for you. I'll say this much, though. The only way to hunt a pack of wlves, is to be in a pack of wolves yourself. Tonight, it's all business, but after tonight, if you ever need some back up, don't hesitate to find me. Something tells me we're gonna need to start watching each other's backs.

Johnny was in total agreement.
No way I can argue wit' dat kinda' logic. They should be about ready to get War Games goin' soon. We'd better go see when we're on. And thanks for offerin' up the assist.

Kris nods and replies.
Don't sweat it, bro. Let's roll.
Both men make there way out to the stage entrance. Against an increasingly growing army, it seemed that two unlikely men were now united. The 1st shot was fired, and the war that seemed to be brewing for months was now officially beginning.
The End
