I think that this is something that was said before, but it's time I gushed over it a little myself. That thing that they call the "Love of the Game". Face it folks, in one way or another that's the reason why we're in this business. Money, glory, notoriety, all that is just residual for the fact that between those ropes is just someplace that we as wrestlers desire to be.
Now I'm a veteran to some extent, not like a 10-year guy or nothing like that but I've been at this for sometime now and I do consider myself to be something of an expert. I've been around and I've seen and done a hell of a lot in my career. Honestly, if I could re-do I probably wouldn't change much aside from seriously go after a couple of people and put them on their backs, but that's another tail for another time. I think back to this thing that Kris Cade once said though, I think that sums it all up pretty much.

Here's a man who has pretty much seen everything positive and negative about the industry. A man that's loved by many, hated by many more, but respected by all. He's been involved in controversy. He's had a dark cloud loom over his head about particular things he's done and done to others in the game. He's been called out, called names, and then some. But in all that time, do you know what's changed about him? Nothing. He's not a character. He's not a brand name. He's a man. A man who lives for this business. If he didn't, He would have called it quits years ago. No matter what, Payne kept fighting. When the industry changed around him, when his situations changed, and he was forced to make tough choices, he didn't make the right choice, or the wrong choice. He made his choice. Because he refused to conform. He stands out amongst all others who came out in his "class" if you will, because unlike any of them, Jon Payne is still Jon Payne.
There's a secret to that there. It's called EVOLUTION. And you thought it was just another nickname or catchphrase? This is a skill that can be taught, but for the most part it's one that's either gonna come natural or not. See, no matter where I've been, I've adapted...and I've been in places that were both odd and shady lemme tell you. The secret is to not get stuck in one thing or one style too long...that's when you become one dimensional, and once that happens it's gonna be hard to get out of.
It's also called loving what you do and doing what you do your way. I've stood up to the rank and file, I've put up with the upstarts, I've made things happen both in the ring and out of it and personally, it never gets old. Don't think it ever will either.
I hear left and right about how people are stepping away, places are closing down or changing management or whatever. I couldn't even IMAGINE what it would be like if I had to leave this business. If that day comes...and I'm a realist, I know it will someday, it will be because of Jon Payne and no other reason. I might not be on XWA TV as much nowadays, but be damn sure everyone in the back knows that I'm not going anywhere.
It's not so much of me being a part of this business as much as the business is a part of me. That being said I have had and will continue to have too much heart for anyone or anything out there to drive me away from that squared circle...and if you've followed me the last three years you know there've been plenty of potholes on the road. I'm not about to have someone else close my book. As long as I'm physically able I'll write it until I alone decide it's time to come to an end.[/color][/b]
