Just hours before the Vendetta PPV. Rumors began to swirl about the possible 'retirement' of one Brandon Payne...aka... the man known to the world as Genesis. The dirt shows claimed through various sources that Genesis' reason for retiring was due to a combination of 'burnt out' and 'backstage issues' from another rival company.
Today, at 6:05 pm eastern time. A press conference was held by Mr. Payne and several of his agents outside the arena. As Payne stood at the podium. He held a few documents in his hands:
Ladies and Gentleman. What I hold here in my hands are the documents surrounding the so called 'rumors' that have been going around about yours truly for the last several days. Today, as I stand before each and every wrestling fan that has supported me for the past three years. I will address each and every rumor here this evening. I think its time we set the record straight once and for all from the man himself.
The rumors consisted of my possible 'retirement'. Along with various other crap that has surfaced all over the internet about me and my status with the XWA and the other places...
As far as the retirement thing goes ? Thats a definite yes...and no !
The whole audience gasps in disbelief.
For the past three years. I have done nothing but give my blood, my sweat, and my tears for professional wrestling. From Atlanta to Toronto to Chicago, all the way here to XWA. With little to no break in between. Now, it is true that I have said to a few known reporters that I have considered retirement as an option for me. Only because of some of the backstage issues that I've had to deal with elsewhere, and NOT with the XWA.
You guys (fans, wrestlers, promoters, etc) have been honest and straight forward with me. So, today. I'm going to return the favor and tell it like it is. I'm not doing this to cause any trouble at all with anybody. If my words trouble any of you. I humbly apologize ahead of time.
At the other place, just as I've done here for XWA in the past several months. I've done nothing but give it my all for them. And in the end. To put it as nice as possible. As it relates to the other organization. I was 'used and abused' by them. I did everything that I was told to do and felt that I made for a great World Champion. However, the 'powers that be' backstage didn't seem to think so. So much to the point that at there upcoming PPV. If I had stuck around. I was basically going to drop the belt to there 'hand picked' future World Champion. Which was somebody that honestly.. doesn't deserve to have the belt in the first place.
Under those circumstances. I felt betrayed, confused, and hurt by those accusations. So much so... that I irrationally chose to step away from professional wrestling altogether. Announcing my 'retirement' from pro wrestling.
When word broke about my 'retirement'. The response I got, particularly from right here in New York was more then overwhelming. For once.. in my entire career. I felt like I actually belonged somewhere. A place that i could truly call my 'home'. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took the time out to address my situation. Your words meant alot to me...and played a BIG FACTOR into what I'm about to say next.
First things first however. For tonight's event. I will fulfill my contractual obligations for Vendetta. For those who were in doubt on the status of Genesis tonight. I will in fact team up with Chris Lionheart to face Primo & Sledge as advertised.
Following the event however. There is a bit of good news and some bad news.
Bad news... Genesis.... aka the King of Controversy aka The Silver-Haired Warrior (laughs) will be declared dead & buried.
The crowd gasps in disbelief. If this was the bad news, what could possibly be considered good news for XWA out of this ?
Now onto the good news. The good news is that I.....Brandon Payne. "Wrestling's Elite", will be alive and well.
Cause you see. Tonight, no matter who wins or loses the match. I will be closing the book on one chapter of my wrestling career. Yet, at the same time. Will be opening up a new chapter for my newest book.
From this point forward. Genesis is dead. Brandon Payne is born.
How will all of this relate to you guys in the XWA ?
Simple. As of today. I officially terminated my contract with the other organization. And renewed my current contract with the XWA for a huge contract extension. Translation ? Get used to seeing this face around New York. Because I will be here...and ONLY here...for a LONG...LONG time !
Fans start to cheers. Most of them are just relieved at the fact that Gen...errr....Brandon Payne. Won't be retiring after all.
So in closing. Expect to see the new and improved Brandon Payne back in the ring between the next PPV event titled "Mayday" and the June PPV. You don't know when, don't know where, or how ? But I will be back...faster....stronger....wiser....and better then you !
...Book Closed...
...End of Story....
...Deal With It....
Payne leaves the podium and is escorted into the arena by security to avoid the mob of fans and wrestling reporters who showed up for the impromptu press conference.
