It was backstage during Vendetta. Just mere moments before the National Title match between the upstart Romeo Davis and the reigning champion Bryan Jasta. Van new that Jasta would most likely be on his way to the ring, so he quickly went to intercept him. As luck would have it, Van meets up with Jasta just beyond the stage entrance. He steps up to the champion and speaks.
It's been a loooooooooong time, hasn't it, Bryan? I know in all of your high and mighty glory that you probably don't remember who I am. But I more then remember who you are. In fact, you're the reason why I refocused all of my efforts into becoming a better fighter. Last year. The 3rd of your now legendary defenses. You did to me, what you've done to so many others. You beat me, and left me a bloody mess in the process. But destroy me you didn't. Not a chance. You helped wake something up in me that I have all intentions on unleashing on YOU. And only...you. So I just wanted to say good luck out there. Because it's not Davis I want to take that title off of. It's you, Jasta. The question has been asked for months on end now. "Who can beat Bryan Jasta?" The answer? You're looking at him.
Van awaits Jasta's response.

Jasta responds quickly to Hayden's words.
Oh, but I do remember you, Van. I remember you all to well. I remember the fact that they have you pegged to be the future of this industry. That they speak of you as being a sure fire future champion in this business. And I remember the look of complete devastation on the faces of everyone when I pinned you 1...2...3. They thought you were actually a match for me. HAAAAAAAAAAA!!! I don't take any man's skill lightly. It's just that there are very few men who's skill matches my own. I've proven this month, after month, after month. I've defended this title against any man willing to face their better, and their better they HAVE faced. But you've got no worries, my friend. It WILL be me you face for this title. Davis poses no threat to me. Hell, why do you even think I gave him the shot in the 1st place? What is it that Von Schwartz said?
"Victory gives false hope and blind faith in the eyes of one who does not understand the true nature of competition."
The fool thinks because he's won 3 meaningless fights that he's ready to stand in the ring with the PINNACLE of the sport. And his foolishness will fall, just like he will, to my feet. Then...I'll give you exactly what it is you want. What you've craved for so many months. I've seen your matches thus far. You've improved, but whether you're on the level to defeat me, is another story. Now...if you'll excuse me. I have a wet behind the ears rookie to put in his place.
With his sly grin, Jasta straps the National Title to his waist, and makes his way over to the stage entrance.
