THE REVENGE OF THE STRAIGHT SHOOTER!!!
By Jon Payne
Well I didn't think I would be doing this again now, but here it is ladies and gents. Jon Payne's going viral again...the man who made the wrestler blog a trend way back in the days of the LX-Dub is at it again, and what do I have to say?
What indeed.
It's been a few weeks since I've been in action now and I have to tell you guys that I'm really missing it. I've been spending the time off since March Madness chilling with my girlfriend Kim and training pretty much. I'm pretty stoked that XWA is in Japan this month, you can definitely expect to see me in action there. Japan is my second home. A lot of training I've gotten came from there. That's right folks, Riot didn't teach me everything...c'mon now, I'm a black belt in Jujitsu, Karate and Judo...you think I learned that from him?
That brings me to a pretty big announcement I have to share with you guys. Something I thought about for a long time that I finally decided to go through with. Mixed Martial Arts. That's right people, Mr. Momentum Killer is going MMA...part time anyway. Wrestling is my life, that's something I'm going to be doing until I'm physically not able to anymore, but it's more about testing my skills in a new arena right now, against new challengers in new settings. That's the nature of the martial artist, to alway push yourself to be stronger, smarter, faster and better.
So where might I go? Well...once word got out that I was considering MMA, I've gotten a lot of calls. UFC/Pride is obviously a top candidate, but there's also IFL, and a few other places that I'm looking at. Honestly it's more about the competition than the organization, and there's a lot of guys I wouldn't mind tangling with in all of them. Silvia, Mir, Kimbo, oh man...those would be some awesome fights right there.
Since I'm on that subject, you know over the last year I've noticed that pro wrestling has kind of taken a turn towards a kind of MMA style of competition too. You'll always have your daredevils and powerhouses and things like that...but I'm seeing a lot more talent nowadays using more of a grounded style in the ring. Submissions, striking, all that stuff that you normally don't pay much attention to is taking a precedent, and I would be crazy not to take some credit for that myself.
I've always been one of those guys who tries to balance my game as much as possible, to the point where I can tangle with just about anyone in any style and have a chance to win...they don't call me "The Evolution" for nothing. Now, I'm starting to see other people changing up their gameplans to meet the competition head on as well. I can't say that's a bad thing...I'm the perfect example that paying attention to the little things and honing every weapon in your arsenal pays off in spades.
A lot of guys in XWA are starting to come in their own right about now I have to say. Syrus The Entertainer stands out in my mind the most only because I've faced the guy before and I knew he had the skills to take it to the top. That first month of March was a great start for him. Same can be said for the new XWA Champ Bain. He's big, he's strong and he's young...that's a dangerous combo right there. Looking on, I gotta say that this grid of male talent is pretty wide open right now. Lots of opportunity for anyone willing to put the work into take it.
The guys I really have my eyes on though are this Primo Coalition. There you have a group of some of the most aggressive, impressive and in one guy's case controversial men in the whole industry today...and it wouldn't hurt me one bit to see what it is that they're made of. I don't wanna sound too cocky or anything...but that's really how I see myself nowadays. It wasn't just one thing I was saying to Austin Harris just to say it...I think it to be true because well...I'm just that good to what I say I am. A test. THE test. For anyone out there who claims to be worth their salt inside of wrestling ring. You're not anything until you've proven yourself in the ring against the best competition there is to face, and you can't see it on your PC screens, but I'm pointing to myself and smiling like that tool was in the first fight in "Never Back Down". I can't believe I was talked into watching that.
There's one guy in that category for me though. One guy I've never faced, mainly because I never got the chance to. Whatever the reasons may be...paths not set in the same direction or whatever it hasn't happened, yet...but it will, because it has to and I know...the fans know it, the insiders know and somewhere up in Canada wherever it he's hanging out he knows it. You know who you are. We've seen the teaser vids online. Whatever your doing right now, dotting I's and crossing T's, getting whatever deals done that need to be made...you won't have to look too far for your first challenger in the good old XW of A, Mr. Styles. Just look for the guy in black and green. I'm waiting.
Well, that was a handful there wasn't it? I'm gonna be as detailed about everything I have to say I can, cuz let's face it...some of these bloggers out there-none in XWA thank god-talk about goo-goo-gaa-gaa. Not I said the cat. I'll be real, I'll be straight and as usual...I'll be in the know.
See you in Tokyo folks. Sayonara!
