Bio:
Jon Payne. Fans love him. Rivals hate him. Critics just can't stop talking about him. Every so often in the world of pro wrestling there comes one who makes such an impact that he can't be denied or ignored. In the last two years, Payne has been that man.
The story at large begins two years ago within the "bingo hall" of the WTF, the farm league of Virtual Wrestling Entertainment. It was here that Payne's star quality instantly showed through in a new crop of talent that took the small training league by storm, most notably heated rivalries within against the likes of Shawn Hollywood and the late Jonny Pyro. With a knack to make all around him "Take Notice", Payne was called up almost immediately to the main show, VWE itself.
It didn't take long for him to make waves there as well, as upon his arrival he had immediate buzz thanks in part to his continued rivalry with Pyro. Rather than build on it though he went another route, joining forces with Anthony Xavier (at the time known as Cabal Xavier) under the teamname "Payne By Dragons". The team was an instant hit, not only defeating one of the league's most popular and storied teams in "Sugar & Supaisu", but a month later capturing the VWE Tag Championship in a chaotic ladder match. Personal and professional problems soon showed their head though which forced Payne after months of success to relinquish his half of the Tag Titles and leave VWE amicably.
The next stop for him was LXW, a popular yet ill-fated federation ran by his trainer and longtime mentor Vincent "Riot" Fate. There Payne saw similar in-ring success in his brief time within the company in matches such as his specialty-The Steel Cage-where he had beaten Pyro in a renewal of their feud as well as LXW's sole "Icon", the late Ace, going his full duration of the season with only a single loss in a backstage brawl with the league's final "SlamGod" Champion Brent Starr. Soon the company folded under the pressure of it's own success, internal squabbling and secret plots, leaving Payne who signed a multi year deal out of work.
In early 2007 Payne signed a developmental deal with an upstart company out of Toronto and wrestled a single match there, another loss to Brent Starr, before opting out of said contract, which weeks later led him to the young XWA-just founded by the conjunction of Rodolphe Gallas and Carmella Blackheart.
In a full year of work, Payne saw ups and downs personally, but professionally kept to his immense talent and pure grit-higlighted by one of if not the biggest win in his career to date, capturing the then vacated XWA World Title at Vendetta 2007 against the legendary "Immortal" Simon Fierhart. In the midst of a rocky divorce however, he was forced to relinquish the World Title not but a few weeks later though, the second time he's had to give away a title rightfully earned. As the season went on, Payne would have many exceptional matches throughout, including two against "The Colossus" Steven Higby, taking part in the "Gladiator Match" versus Syrus Sykes, the first ever Devil's Playground match and most recently a victory against Brent Starr.
The most notable achievement For Jon though in 2007 happened outside of the ring in the wake of his divorce with ex-wife Blaise Bertuzzi-a growing relationship with XWA Diamond Kimberly Angelos. After months of taking their time and getting to know one another the relationship reached a new, more intimate level in the last 2 months of the 2007 season.
Payne brings to the ring a style of wrestling that is as versatile as it is it effective, a fact that suits his nickname of "The Evolution" for year by year it's constantly changing to meet the demands of competition. This season Payne brings a much grounded, technical attack to the squared circle hearkening to the "Strong" Style of wrestling touted in Japan. The level of tenacity and intensity he's known for in the ring is matched only by his confident yet laid-back demeanor, being the undisputed champion of the catchphrase and never being one to back down in the face of those who think they can get under his skin.
Jon Payne. The Evolution. Mr. Momentum Killer. One of the greatest in-ring performers in the ring today, and most certainly willing to put that to the test along with anyone who sees fits to join him in doing just that. 2008 will bring new challenges and new possibilties, but whatever cards may be dealt one thing is for sure: you will "Take Notice".
