Having friends in the Military rocked for Melissa, wherever her and her little four year old daughter needed to go. They were taken care of. It was always flights on cargo planes but on the bright side she could take whatever she wanted on board. The flights were faster, and she didn't have to worry about anyone walking off with her daughter. The entire time they were on the plane August slept, the trip from Ohio to New York was relatively short so the flight wasn't that long.
As soon as they landed Melissa lifts her daughter up and sets her in the backseat of her 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang and buckles her in. That was another benefit, she got to take her car along as well. Getting in herself Melissa buckles herself in and turns the engine over. Kicking it into drive she drives off of the plane and onto the tarmac.
** 10 minutes later **
Arriving at her destination Melissa looks back at her rapidly waking daughter. August was right now the only person Melissa had. She was the light of Melissa's life. Putting her eyes back on the road, Melissa smiles while talking to her daughter.
" Have a nice nap sweetie? "
Rubbing her eyes to get the sleep out August replies.
" Uh huh, where are we mommy? "
" New York city baby, I promise I'll make this one stick if I can okay?"
" Okay. "
Smiling back at her daughter as she finds a parking spot, Melissa puts her car in park and gets out fist before getting her daughter out. Holding her hand Melissa and August walk together to the entrance of the building. It was probably the largest building August had seen yet. As evident by her constant looking around.
Arriving at the reception desk Melissa gets the info she needs to find Warfield's office. Taking the short ride up, Melissa makes small talk with her daughter to pass the time until they reach their destination. When the door opens, the pair walk down to Sarah's office as Melissa knocks a couple of times.

Holding onto her daughter's hand, Melissa opens the door and lets August go in first while teasing her daughter.
" Ms. Warfield, I think you have your next superstar right here holding my hand. "
Kinda rolling her eyes the best she can August replies.
" MOMMY! "
Having a laugh Melissa looks over at Sarah
" I don't think it's hard to see I'm actually the one here looking for a job. "
Seeing the window August runs over to it and starts to look out leaving Melissa to talk with Sarah.
" My name's Melissa Armstrong, and that's my daughter August. "
Before taking a seat Melissa sticks her hand out for a shake with possibly her new boss.

Which she does with a smile as she looks over to August as well.
I would hope it's you who wanted a shot, there is an age requirement for this place...labor laws and all that. Ha Ha...please...take a seat, make yourself comfortable.
So, Melissa Armstrong hmm? I've heard a bit about you Ms. Armstrong, this certainly wouldn't be your first go around. Tell me what brings you here to XWA?

Taking a seat in one of the chairs in front of the desk Melissa laughs a little again as she replies.
" This certainly wouldn't be my first go around in the ring. As for what brings me around here to XWA, well I think looking for a job is part of it. Seriously though, there are a shortage of GOOD federations with even decent women's divisions around nowadays. So I decided why not try my hand at the best place I could find. That would be here.
I'm not sure what you've heard of me, but whatever it is this is only my second year in the biz. So really anyone I may have offended or accidentally pissed off or hurt it was a rookie mistake. "

Sarah giggles as she re-takes her seat.
No, no, no, nothing like that. It's been generally good things I've heard, Melissa. You've got talent. You've got potential. But those are two things that can only get you so far by just "having". It's how you use it that sets your mark. That's what the entire Diamond Division was built on.
Women's wrestling is certainly not just a "side" promotion anymore and I'd like to think that the ladies of the XWA have had something to do with that. In fact, I go as far as to say that they have had a great deal to do with it, and any woman who is willing and ready to become a part of that tradition is a woman who's worth my attention. It's not just about the wrestling, it's about being symbols of strength. Role models even. Being a mother I can assume you know a little something about that, hmm?

Nodding Mel replies
" Yea, being a good role model is something I do see as important. I might not be the best role model myself but no one's perfect. I do think though that by looking at my..."healthy" body I could be a symbol to some of the maybe younger female fans who don't fit or want to fit into that cookie cutter Barbie-girl image."

Well there aren't too big an abundance of those types here fortunately. Happy I am to say this, the Diamond Division has less of the usual stuff you see, you know...the barbies on one side and the "female dogs" on the other with the militant types in between.
Sure they might be out there, but that's not what defines this league or anyone in it, it's what happens in the ring and the level of professionalism that's carried outside of it that does. That's what attracts so many different kinds of fans to us, and potential employees as well.
So, why don't you tell me a little about yourself and your girl?

" Well I was born in Virginia, was mostly quiet when I was younger. Very different from my little girl there. "
August who was very curious, up until now was loving starring out the window. Looking at Sarah August smiles at her and blurts out.
" You're pretty. "
Having a giggle at that Melissa continues talking to Sarah.
" She also can't help but blurt things out every now and then. I got pregnant with her when I was in the Marines. I had an affair with my commanding officer. This large, chocolate hunk of a man. I think I have a picture of him here somewhere. "
Feeling around in her pockets Melissa pulls out a pic of a close to seven foot black man dressed in the formal Marine uniform.

Thank you August! You're not too bad looking yourself dear.
Sarah is nearly blushing as she gives a look at the picture that Melissa displays.
Well he is impressive. I have heard stories about Marines men, guess they're all true from the looks of it. So where did you serve while you were in the Marines? Any good stories to share?

Putting the picture away Melissa still smiling responds.
" I was stationed in Afghanistan for about a year or two, and then I was in Iraq. As for the stories question, do bears crap in the woods? I have more then a couple good stories but none that I will tell when August is around. I don't want her to hear about the horrors I faced when I was over there. Maybe when she's older ya know. But If you ever wanna get a drink or something I'd love to share some of my war stories with you. "

She nods.
Alright then, I'll hold you to that one day.
Speaking of August there, you're the second in as many days that I found out has children you know. I think that's great actually, it shows a sign of serious responsibility. Wanting nothing but the best for them tends to bring out the best in us, nothing wrong with that.
Sarah leans forward in her seat a bit now, folding her fingers together on her desk before asking her next question.
The one thing I neglected to ask though is about the travel factor. As you might or might not have known, the XWA travels around the world on a monthly basis even though it keeps to it's roots here in New York. Naturally we'd do our best to see that August is in good care right along with you. I'd assume a military veteran like you would be used to being on the road, but enlighten me. Is that going to be an issue?

Shaking her head Melissa replies.
" Not gonna be a problem at all, she's been traveling with me for a while now. I think she kinda likes it, she's very well behaved. She normally doesn't cause any problems. So I don't think that it will be much of a problem having her come along with me. "

Oh really? Well, I do have to say that the little bit of time I'm speaking with you here that I'm more than impressed with you as a person and as a mother.
Reclining back in her seat, Sarah reaches into one of the drawers of her desk and searches for an XWA 2008 contract.
I guess all that's left now is to see if you're as good in the ring as you are out of it, shall we? There we go...
And so she pulls one out and looks as sets it on the desk.
...All nice and legal. You can look it over if you want to, the details and all that pretty cut and dry. This is the moment you've waited for...just grab a pen and sign it when you're ready to.

Picking up the pen, Melissa also picks up the contract and quickly scans through it to get a gist of what she was signing. Seeing it was the same as the other contracts she's signed she nods in approval and quickly signs her name to the line.
" There ya go, signed and dated. "
Sliding the contract back to Sarah
" Looks like I'm the latest diamond, so when does this place really get to hoppin' ? "
