Culberson County, Texas.
On the other side of the state from the rest of the XWA Roster, Hayley and Aiyanna had made a pilgrimage to the Guadalupe Mountains.
They were on a small trek that would lead to Guadalupe Peak, the highest topographical point in the entire state. Getting off the bus that led the to the centre at the bottom of the mountain, Hayley looks up towards the top.

~/~Seemed that they were the only two on the bus taking the stop here, she stepped off and looked back as the bus door closed and the engine roared a bit as it pulled away, the bus driver shaking his head as he did. She sighed and looked to Hayley as the words escaped her mouth and she herself looked up at the mountain, base to top, marveling at the beauty. It would take quite a bit to reach the top, but they could do it. She was sure of it.~\~
"Yes, quite a ways it is. But, it will do us both good. The excercise this will provide will be bountiful. Plus... The air up there I'm sure is very nice and crisp." |

They walk into the centre where there are a few people, tourists and locals alike. Together they walk up to the information desk where a clerk greets them.
"Welcome to the Guadalupe Mountains, ladies! What can I help ya with?"
[glow=red,4,300]Well, we wanna get to the top actually.[/glow]
"Yeah, that's what everyone comes here for, Guadalupe Peak, highest point in all of Texas. Well...lucky for everyone it's not so hard to get there, been a path that goes over the mountain for over a hundred years, the Butterfield Stage. That's how The Pony Express got from Texas to New Mexico and back. It's walkable or ridable all the way to the top. Question is...how would you be looking to get there?"

~/~She smiled to the clerk before looking to Hayley. She had chimed in quite quickly. Giving the answer almost unexpectedly you could say. She didn't know what the clerk meant by ride. Perhaps he meant by horse, that wouldn't have been bad really. However, she still was one that preferred walking.~\~

Hayley looks back at her with a smile.
"Good time of year too, sometimes it's kinda dangerous especially in the wintertime, but 'round spring and summer, it's a great thing. Enjoy yourselves!"

With that they head out and after a bit of a walk, they indeed see the very path he spoke of. What a trek it was going to be. Nothing but each other, they start their hike up the mountain.

"Used to it or not, it is still a marvelous thing to see. I'm guessing you don't get to do this too often."
~/~She looked to Hayley and patted her on the arm as they walked. A thought was forming in her head. She hadn't slept in the wild since coming to XWA. She hoped Hayley wouldn't mind doing so tonight.~\~

They continue up the trail, taking in the natural beauty of the mountain which had really spellbound Hayley. Trekking up the hills, one thing had stood out in her mind since she had met Aiyanna weeks ago. She always mentioned these spirits. Great Sprits that had watched over her and her family, that had guided her path. It seemed the perfect time now to learn more about that which she had lived by Aiyanna did.

~/~She didn't answer. Not at first. They walked for another minute or two. She was going over it in her head, how to explain it just right. She breathed in deeply, inhaling the fresh air, then exhaling it slowly as she looked up, towards the peak of the mountain once again.~\~
"The Great Spirits watch over us, Hayley. They intervene in life, when its needed, even if its to save the smallest of woodland creatures, while it may not seem like much at first, that woodland creature could go on to save another in life, or even a person's. You see? The Spirits watch over us. They protect us. When it is time to join them... They call us. They have called both my mother and father and one day they'll call me. You too.There are also animal guides... But, I'll go into that in more detail a little later, okay?" |

It was definitely a different way of thinking thing, but no less interesting. Hayley obviously wasn't the more spiritual or religious girl in the world, so these spirits were intriguing. Obviously Aiyanna believed strongly in them, from her words. Hayley took those words in eagerly.

It was a good 45 minutes before they reached the top of that hill...and only more terrain had lay ahead.

Phew! Maybe we should have brought some stuff with us, you know... like water. Hmmm...I think that blue place might be a checkpoint or something. You wanna check it out or keeping going?[/glow]

She could keep going for awhile longer now, however, she was also considerate that Hayley wasn't used to this kind of travel, or at least not on this kind of terrain, she gazed the area slowly, spotting the blue shack and nodding.~\~
"Yes. Let us seek shelter there, but only briefly. I'm sure that place has water, or some other kind of refreshment for us."
~/~She smiled warmly to Hayley before the two set off towards the shack. New York had some wild life areas, woods and forests, but it didn't get anywhere as good as this, she thoroughly enjoyed being out in this enviroment. However, she knew that she would only really get to do this every so often from now on. But that was fine, it made it all the more enjoyable that way.~\~ |

They reached the rest stop of sorts, must have been a few of these place up the trail for people...it is a popular tourist spot after all, don't want people dying of thirst. 
Sure enough there was a soda machine there. Hayley reaches into her pocket for change and gets herself a bottled water. Downing it quickly she was refreshed and threw the bottle into a nearby recycling bin.

They continued their march up the mountain. Hayley was pretty amazed that Aiyanna hadn't missed a beat. She seemed to have this natural energy permeating from her that had begun to rub off onto Hayley. Seeing her on the mountain, seeing her in the ring...Hayley had all the confidence in the world that Aiyanna would eventually be one of the most strong willed women in the world, not just in wrestling. She was beginning to be just as proud of being by her side as Aiyanna was of being allied with "The HellCat".
Continuing their trek, soon it began to get dark. They'd have to stop and camp out eventually. Hayley was of course a little weary...they hadn't came to the mountain with a thing but the clothes on their backs.

~/~Getting dark already? She had lost track of time since they begin their journey for the top of the mountain. She took a deep breath in as she looked around. Not too dark yet, they could get another ten minutes of walking in if they wanted... But they needed to be able to see to do what they should.~\~
"We make a fire for warmth. Hayley... You go that way and I'll go this. We should meet back here, on this spot, within five minutes from now. After the fire is made... Well, just get as much wood as you can alright?" |

They split up for a few brief moments to look for firewood. Good thing Hayley was a tree climbing tomboy anyways, she was totally up for it. Jumping up at trees she started to break off twigs and branches here and there gathering up as much as she could. The sound was peaceful. All that could be heard was the nature surrounding her, the animals, the breeze...it was quite the experience for her. Minutes passed and Hayley returned to the meeting spot with as much wood as she could carry, dumping it on the ground. She sat down waiting for Aiyanna to return and started to rub the branches to make a fire, and was failing miserably at it...

~/~She had gotten a slight bit side tracked in her search for wood. She had actually spotted a rabbit and went after it. They needed to eat didn't they? Yes, yes they did. She came sauntering back to the "campsite" holding the dead rabbit by the ears in her left hand and and bundle of sticks under her right arm, she walked over to the pile Hayley had made and dropped them carelessly onto the rest. She knelt down and placed the rabbit down gently on a patch of grass as she picked up two small, roughly shaped rocks. Dead animals were common to her. Its how she survived all her life, however, she didn't take in the fact how Hayley would react.~\~
"It's easier if you do it like this, Hayley."
~/~She began to strikethe rocks against one another in quick motions, the motions aimed towards the sticks out of the main pile that would serve as their camp fire. After a few hard strikes sparks begin to come off the rocks and hit against the wood, not starting anything yet, she continued to strike them, small grunts coming from her with each one.~\~ |

Hayley smiles as Aiyanna continues to spark the fire...or try to...then looks over at the cadaver of a rabbit laying across the grass thinking to herself...

Um...I hope we're cooking that rabbit there, Aiyanna. Raw meat's not my thing, unless it's sushi or something, hee hee.[/glow]
