It had been a cold day, and Ryan could feel the chill running down his spine. Early in April, snow was still covering the ground. Ryan had been walking for nearly an hour without a coat, and his hoodie wasn't enough. He needed warmth.
Walking along the street, he had his hood up and hands buried in the pockets in the front of his sweater. He looked to his side, and saw a local coffee shop. It wasn't a Star bucks or Tim Horton's, but it would do. He brought one hand out of his pocket and swung the door wide open and entered.
It was just a typically coffee hut, but something about it made it feel special. Maybe it was how quiet it was, or maybe the smell of freshly made coffee and perfect coffee beans. Whatever it was, it had a great vibe to it.
Ryan walked up to the counter. He removed both his hands from his pocket, and pushed his hood back from atop his head. The young blond at the counter greeted him with a grin.
Hello.
She had a soft Scottish accent. If she didn't look so young, Ryan might have already been flirting with her.
Hey...
At this point, he was to cold to make up anything else to start a conversation, so his soft green eyes wander up to the menu.
..How about a large double-double with a chocolate dip donut?
The girl nodded swiftly, then punched something into the computer. She headed over to the cash register, poked a few more buttons and smiled.
That'll be 5.00 dollars please.
Ryan's eyes widened. 5 bucks for a coffee and donut? "Better be damn near perfect!" Went through his mind. However, without hesitation he reached into his pants pocket and retrieved his wallet. After fishing around in the wallet for a second, he handed her a five dollar bill.
Thank you!
Yeah yeah yeah.. Better be worth it..
She scurried off to get his coffee and donut, which was ironically his lunch. She must not have heard him muttering, or else she probably give him lip.
Moments later she returns with a half-assed coffee and a stale donut. So much for the place seeming special. Ryan decided not to complain. He grabbed his bag and went to a seat that was unoccupied. Time for "lunch".
