Just today I was looking over some video game sites and noticing that a lot of companies and games seem to be producing the same kind of games...and seeing who will win. Now I know some games are older then others but they're still new enough to count. I was wondering what games you think will win the little "standoffs" so to say. Feel free to post your own similar game dealios if you want.
Skate vs. Tony Hawk's Proving Ground
Alright for this one I went with Skate. Now I know lots of TH fanboys are gonna hate me for this but seriously, what has the Birdman really put out thats decent recently. Project 8? Game was horrible. No obvious storyline, sloppy character models, small levels...what happened to the seamlessness they had in American Wasteland? The plain and simple fun of the first three? Downhill Jam? HA! That game was TERRIBLE! I can't even begin to explain why its so bad without being sick.
The Tony Hawk games are a dying breed and I think Proving Ground may be its only chance at redemption, but it still doesn't snag the victory for me. EA is coming into a virtually unrivaled area, name one other skateboarding game as successful as the Tony Hawk game franchise. You can't. But EA so far has been consistently dropping bombs about their product.
Danny Fucking WAY!?!? Best skater in the world hands down. He deserves the fame that Tony has. That alone is enough for me to buy the game. But EA is also bringing a whole new layer of realism in with their game. I remember kicking back on the couch and stringing together endless tricks in a multi-million point combo on Tony Hawk and thinking "Fuck..no one can do this in real life." Now I know games are meant to stretch the lines of reality...but I want a real skating experience personally without having to ride my own deck.
This is what Skate brings to the table. Sure Tony tried to add realism with "Nail The Trick" and now in Proving Ground theres gonna be "Nail The Grab/Grind/Manual" but seriously...I hardly found myself using them. Skate uses that almost as its core. You have to move the analog sticks like you're throwing an ollie, like you're spinning a kickflip. No need to press some other button to grind, you ollie and angle yourself at the rail properly, you grind automatically. The games premise is also realistic. You work your way up the ranks. You start out making videos (you actually get to record footy, set it to music on your harddrive, splice and edit to your hearts content) and taking photos. Sending them away and getting noticed. I personally can't wait to shred the X Games on my 360. In closing, I seriously think Skate is going to not only steal Tony's thunder...but zap him with their lightning while they're at it.
Bioshock vs. Too Human
Now both of these games have a great premise and great potential. Having heard great things already about Bioshock and seeing many videos, I'm going to have to give it the upperhand. Too Human still does have a good chance of coming back and beating out Bioshock, but the new things Bioshock is bringing to the table won't be easy to beat. The gameplay is fun, the story is intriguing and the graphics are stunning, Bioshock takes the win for this one.
Saints Row vs GTA IV
Do I really need to say anything here? Saints Row is undoubtedly a fun game and is the best attempt thus far at a GTA-like game, but nothing can beat the original. I enjoy Saints, but I enjoy GTA much more.
Halo 3 vs. Um...nadda?
Looks like another massive victory for Halo...I've already pre-ordered .
So there we are...wish I could have found more but I'm kinda tired right now...heh.
