I have absolutely no idea of what to do with Manami. I mean there are plenty of people I could work with but I haven't the foggiest of ideas on what to do with her. Anyone have any suggestions?

Aside from the fact that she's an ex-porn star. And well versed in Japanese styled wrestling. And a lush when drunk lol I do not know much about the Manami character. Obviously, I'm new to XWA. And in the profile it only mentions basically about she felt she didn't do well last year, after extensive training she wishes to do better. Which is good, short and to the point. Sadly it doesn't give me much information to go off of in terms of trying to give a pointer lol Anything in particular about the characters backstory/personality that would be beneficial to know [Aside from the things I listed that Lilith already knows of] that could help me discern a better response aside from; "Do your best" Which is all I have right now lmfao

Honestly, besides the few minor things I have established in RPs so far, she is a blank slate. Never really had any real opportunity to establish much backstory.

That may be a good thing. It's good to have a developed character backround of course. But it can be a liiiiittle bit difficult at times to have said character evolve without it looking... weird. It's nothing short of taxing trying to have Lilith's character evolve in certain aspects of 'humanity' and 'caring' without it looking out of place and over the top soap TV style.
With a 'general' blank slate and as you said, somethings already in place. You can kind of mold Manami to be whatever you really want her to be.
From my general understanding of the character. She was a porn star. Had a couple surgeries to mask identifiable traits of that previous job, and all in all doesn't want the public to know it's her yes?
This added with being a lush whenever she is drunk, would likely suspect that you could easily have her accidentally spill the beans to a select person. This however has the negative side effect of said person probably trying to use it as blackmail and thus turning the Manami character into a 'dog' as it were, aka Slave.
Now this is a risky route, and rarely ends well. I can count quite quickly off of my head people who have tried it and it failing miserably. So I'm not suggesting it, I am however showing how if you -combine- certain aspects you already have familiarized within Manami, you can easily come up with general baseline ideas.
She has quite a few tribute attires for Japanese Joshi Legends. She's obviously well trained in the art of Japanese styled wrestling and combat. You could play more off of that. Which obviously ties into her culture, her heritage, her ethnicity. You could use that. She could be the staple proud Japanese. Or a inverted self hating Japanese. Perhaps someone who believes indoctrination of 'lesser' cultures into her own has poisoned her homeland.
Etc etc.
This all just off the top of my head, it's past midnight here so I'm a little out of it lol

Any help is good at the moment. All of those ideas sound good. I think I will go with one or two of them. I just need a volunteer to be the one to help .

There are many things you can do with Manami. She's been around long enough. Hit rock bottom, then have her clean herself up... could take the whole season right there. 3 months down... 3 months up. You really just have to get her out there, even if it's just in a room with others. Doing nothing with her is surely to end even worse. I wanted to see her again after the initial meeting, and never did. So quit thinking soo much and get out there. Please. ;D

Also, try to envision something that... will be fun. Not as in 'fun' goodie goodie face it's all rainbows and puppy dogs fun. Fun as in something you'll enjoy wanting to write out. Something you'd want to read yourself that pulls you in and such. Plus remember, you're never locked into any-one- specific character trait. Diversity among your own ideas is key.
Lilith is a bitch.
Lilith is a control freak. Lilith is a sexual deviant. Lilith is power hungry. Lilith has a God Complex. Lilith secretly adores cute things. Lilith can cook. Lilith is a hopelessly secret romantic. Lilith is/used to be a Mother. I could go on and on for ages but there's a limit to how many letters and spaces can be used in a post lol
Lilith is -- More than just a bitch is the bottom point.
Manami is an ex-porn star. But that's obviously just at the surface of her character.
Dig. Dig. Digdigdigdigdig. Then dig some more for good measure and to plant a flag indicating you digged.

From what I've read about the character, you have a character that can easily mix comedy and serious which gives you an automatic advantage because it gives you options. And I'm not talking potty humor comedy, but comedy like Chet Dixon(for those who were around in XWA when he was around) or Santino(for those who weren't around).
You could have a rivalry stem from Manami blowing someone off or her getting upset at them for bugging her.
You could do a self-doubt story that maybe turns into either regaining her confidence or adopting a stance of "losses don't matter as long as I tried".
Really with a character that's mainly a blank slate backstory wise, you can do a story that's in no related to what you've established backstory wise because you can take liberties with the character that Lilith or 187 might not be able to take with their characters that they've built history with.

Maybe you should try to link Manami to another's character's backstory to start a feud/establish a backstory? That's what I did with Kenji. It was on another fed that the link between Kenji, 187, The American Dragons and Half Death was made. Alotta stuff we just make up as we go along, and it goes well, because we both know his history and now I've made some of mines. If you ever need a female character to start a feud with, I have one I've been waiting to bring into a fed. I can if needed, anything to help a fellow superstar

I've tied characters to others before. Melissa Armstrong was the result. Good when the character she was tied to was there [Rebecca Skye] Terrible when she was gone.

I'M in the same boat I haven't really decided on a good way to take Alicein's character she's pretty much a big open slate right now. Usually the characters I come up with have a whole Back story but I just couldn't think of a big back story for her. I figured get my feet wet see what happenes and take it from there.

I'm in sort of a dilemma right now. I feel no motivation to put in effort with Manami, but I have put so much work into her I feel like i have to RP her to justify it.

You don't need a backstory to establish a character. The idea is to create a backstory in real time. It's nice to have a foundation to fall back on, but it's just as fun to build a character from the ground up based on what they do, not what they've done. A clean slate isn't a bad thing at all.

My BIG problem with Manami is I don't really have someone to give me motivation to really try with her. That's no slight to any of the other Diamond's handlers but most of my 'successful' characters had at least one person I could confidently bounce ideas off of for them. Stacie Wilson had Kasino Royale's handler Vegas. Several of my other characters had Rem. This might just be a fault of mine that's keeping me from having fun, but confidence that at least ONE other person likes my character and is willing to work with me is something I really need.
