So as many of you know, I recently had a severe system crash on my PC which forced me to In-Place install a 2nd OS (Operating System to the non-tech folks) because the original that came with the PC basically went into a coma. Weeks ago I rectified the problem with limited damage (All of the files on my C Drive were lost, pictures, Documents, a couple programs, but all of my vital data had been backed up to my external HD, so the loses were minimal), but since then I've noticed a funny pop up baloon that would display everytime I booted up. It would say:
"One or more of your display drivers are outdated, click on this balloon to view the details."
For weeks I've ignored it, because I know it was only saying that because the version of XP I reinstalled was older then the one I replaced it with, but last night I decided to do some experimenting. Around the time that I 1st bought my PC in 2006, I bought Nvidia Graphics card, but I couldn't install it because the PC was used and full of stuff that wouldn't allow the drivers to install properly. So for the last 3 years this card had been collecting dust, literally. Last night I deleted the existing drivers off my PC completely, popped open my desktop, removed the default graphics card that came with the PC, and installed the Nvidia one. Then came the task of started up my PC. Normally, it wouldn't start, because the card was incompatible. I'd just get a black screen. I'd here the PC start up, but it wouldn't recognize the card. But this time, it did start up, though my display now looked like it was a NES and not a PC. So I re-initialized some of the base display drivers, and popped in the start up disk for the Nvidia card. The drivers installed perfectly onto my PC, and I rebooted as instructed.
When the PC booted back up, I was delighted to see that everything installed flawlessly. My display was putting out a bigger output then my screen can handle, so I went to properties to fix the display, but I'm happy to say that my long standing problems with displays and so-so picture quality is OVER. Just so you can get a grasp of the level it's improved...
Before...
After...
As you can see the difference is prrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrretty drastic. This will also translate into a BONECRUSHING improvement to my video quality. I can now capture video at a higher output, and the usual output I uses 352 x 240 experiences NO frame drops. It's seamless now. One month ago I wasn't even sure if I'd be able to save this damn PC, and now it's even better, running more efficiently and giving me none of the headaches it'd been giving me for the past 3 years. That system crash was a blessing in disguise.
